Bama is vulnerable to the pass

Alabama has always, and I mean always, gotten away with things no one in the SEC does. You are right about their def. backs. Everyone knows this. The thing to do is try to stay away from them off the line, just don't run at them all the time as it appears most receivers do . (running at them my be by design, I'am not knowledgeable enough to know)

Bama gets away with stuff no one else does? Let's take a look at the numbers.

Thru six weeks:

Alabama ranks 66th in the nation in penalties per game with 6.3

Alabama ranks 53rd in the nation in penalty yards per game with 52.3

Alabama's ranks 127th in the nation in opposing penalties per game with 3.7

Alabama ranks 126th in the nation in opposing penalty yards per game with 33.7

FWIW

I think we move the ball very well against them between the 20s....but have difficulty getting TDs...and that predictable pass to Kamara inside the 5 we've used a lot will be picked off against Bama if we run it..

I look for Dobbs to have a good day running the ball---and expect Kamara to get more touches and do well...I think we throw the ball more to Hurd if Foster is out of the game....

I think we need to get the ball into both Byrd and Jennings hands--but not on those stupid-azz horizontal throws for 2 yd gains.....slants and attacking middle of field with Byrd...

I would hope Croom would finally live up to his potential on the field and have a big day--both he and Wolfe are mismatches for Bama....and could break big plays....

I would love to see us come out 5-wide and stretch their D to open up passing lanes and provide opportunities for Dobbs to run the ball

On Bama's side

Bama should run the ball 50 times against us and attack us outside the tackles--that's where we are vulnerable to the run....for multiple reasons that I won't share here because you guys will just flame the crap out of me...

Hurts will be most effective running the ball...and I predict that he hits 2 big plays over our Safeties off of play action to 3 or 11--the transfer from Bowling Green.

I think our only true hope of winning is if the Bubbas catch the turnover bug.....BECAUSE OF OUR INJURY SITUATION....

If we were at full strength on D--I really think we win this game!!!

GO VOLS!! :salute:

Theres something to be said about keeping the crowd in the game too. Itll be electric and hostile and should be from kick off to the final whistle.

Their WR's aren't our WR's. We still can't get separation. Example is the last play in OT at A&M. No one was open.

Your really blaming the WRs for A poor decision by Dobbs throwing it into triple coverage? Wolf wasn't even close to open if it would have got past the first defender the second would have gotten the pick.

Tennessee went away from the run and it cost them. Tennessee wouldn't have had to kick a FG at all if Dobbs was better reading DEs.

Bama is vulnerable to the pass. Hmmmmm.... if only we had a qb that could find the wide open man or a receiver that could consistently catch a football.

They got 14 more against Arky. Not that the game result would have changed but to the point UT has to be even at worse in turnovers Saturday.

This is a crazy fast and opportunistic defense for Alabama. Of the 8 defensive touchdowns that they've scored in 6 games, it seems all the Bama players want in on the fun.

7 of the starting 11 guys on defense have scored a TD so far this year.

DE: Jonathan Allen (75 yd fumble return)

NT: Da'Ron Payne (3 yd fumble return)

DE: Dalvin Tomlinson

OLB: Tim Williams (23 yd fumble return)

OLB: Ryan Anderson

MLB: Reuben Foster

MLB: Shaun Dion Hamilton

CB: Marlon Humphrey (18yd pick 6)

CB: Minkah Fitzpatrick (100 yd pick 6)

SS: Eddie Jackson (55yd pick 6)

FS: Ronnie Harrison (55 yd fumble return)

Makes life easier when your D provides points. The team that beats them will be the one that is able to prevent that. Given recent trends (not that its not normally a focal point) but if UT wins that trend will have to stop.

Special teams have been special with a couple more TDs as well.

TAMU is hardly a distant memory and the vols don't have the sample size of all the western teams, but Tennessee plays Bama every year. Still not sure why many over here are favorably comparing TAMU and Bama defenses.

UT has been solid on STs this year. not near as good as last year but that would be hard to top.

I haven't paid much attention to the comparisons. A&M give up a ton of yards but was also handed several turnovers that changed the result of the game. Bama has given up some yards but as you posted have made some big plays that help offset that.
I don't expect UT to ring up 700 yrds Saturday. But I don't see UT turning it over 7 times either.

Arkansas had 400 yards passing against alaBubba.

That's proof that their DB's aren't as great as many people say they are.

We have as good a chance as anyone in the country to get the WIN this weekend!

Welcome to Neyland stadium bama boys, home of radical and very loud fans.

Enjoy the game and a Tennessee WIN!

Earning our respect WIN by WIN...VFL...GBO!!!

To dig into those stats a little more.

Allen was 25/48 with 3 tds and 3 Ints. to go with those 400 yrds.

So to get 400 yrds you have to put it up quite a bit which also puts you at risk to throw more picks. That stat line won't win Saturday unless you remove some or all of the picks.

I don't think we want Dobbs putting it up more than 35 times. If he gets north of that we are behind and scrambling to get back in the game. Thats not gonna equal success this week.
