I grew up on the Alabama-Tennessee line, and though I became a Tide fan, I've always had a lot of respect for the Vol football program. I met Jeremy Pruitt last summer in Hoover Alabama. I was very impressed with the guy. He's very soft spoken, but there is a confidence about him that stands out immediately.

I'm not sure what he'll be able to do this first season (Saban went 6-6 in the regular season his first year with the Tide), but I have no doubt that Pruitt will resurrect the UT program. I watched the Bama-UT game in Tuscaloosa last year, and saw something I'd never seen; UT players were mailing it in in the second half. I'm quite certain you won't see a repeat of that in 2018.

Anyway.....good luck this season. Hope you win 'em all except for the "Third Saturday".

Welcome to the board. I appreciate the blessing and consent to allow our hallowed team to become great again! LOL.

Anyway, you are right, they quit on the coaches, themselves and the team. Weakness was at the heart of the Botch Jones leadership.

I hate that too. I was at the UT-Vandy game and getting pretty crazy with half*zzed coaching and playing (Hoke was driving the hearse at the time).
Went to Mello Mushroom on the strip with my boys, and watched the ending of the iron bowl. Remember thinking, gosh, a REAL football battle, I miss that. I really hate to admit you are right, but yes, you nailed it. Those last two games, LSU and Vandy were just hot garbage. Pruitt understands what he inherited, and it explains why he would be foolish to crow about this team, especially at the Spring game.

Good news is, there are actually good kids with talent on this team. With an attitude adjustment, we just might be OK. I think that is happening. Very good and accurate words in your post.

I hate your team with a red hot passion. Always have, always will. That’s all I wanted to say

It is interesting that you post this today. I went back and watched the 1998 UT-Bama game this week. That UT team never gave up even when faced with certain loss against Arkansas. At one point in the BAMA_UT game UT was on the goal line, the camera was right on the goal showing both lines facing each other. The TN OL came off the ball and pushed the BAMA DL 2 yards back into the endzone, UT scored easily. I remember thinking at that moment, wow the 2017 UT team was nothing compared to that team. Some of the player on last years team quit about half way through the season and by the last 3 games they had all quit. I am not sure what Pruitt can do with a bunch of quitters. IF he is a master motivator then maybe those same players are decent this year.

We will learn a lot about this team if we get down 17 to WVU in the first game. Does the D give up or do they fight harder? Does the OL come out and drive their man off the ball to try and get back in the game. I will be watching the WVU game very close to see if anyone quits in that game.

I don't see it as much of a stretch for UT to win at least six games (ETSU, UTEP, Charlotte, Kentucky, and Vandy are five of 'em)....I can't believe the talent level at Florida is that far ahead of UT at the moment, and the Gators will be going through growing pains as well. As I said earlier, Saban managed to break even in 2007, and he had inherited a dumpster fire in Tuscaloosa.

When I look back on 2007, I recall thinking I'd be satisfied if Bama was in the conversation. I didn't have many expectations as to the W vs L ratio. I wasn't disappointed by the 6-6 record. I saw a team that played 60 minutes. All six losses were by one score or less. That was a god year.

Unfortunately, I have seen many games over the last 10-15 years where Tennessee players mailed it in in the 2nd half.

Though we're all looking for wins, a 6-6 record, which also reflects close losses and a noticeable difference in true effort and minimizing mistakes by players and coaches, will certainly be something we can build upon. I'm looking forward to (hopefully) seeing articles mid-season about how everyone misjudged the lack of talent on UT's roster...we'll see pretty soon.
