Baker Mayfield - Texas Tech QB

Does anyone know anything about Baker Mayfield transferring from Texas Tech? He earned a scholarship as a walk on and put up pretty good numbers this year- 4TD's vs Baylor. Any chance we take a look at him?

Baker Mayfield is the walk-on QB that was the starter for Texas Tech. He is seeking a transfer. My question is would he have to sit out a year since he is a walk-on and would Vols be interested

why wouldnt we take him? Runs the read option as good as anyone and throws well. If anyone watched some of TT games you would know the kid is a baller.

If he was a recruited player or ever on scholly yes he would have to sit out unless he graduates

We should definitely give him a call once TT grants him a release. Of course, we're playing the numbers game in a big way, so I don't know how this would effect the size of our recruiting class or if we have enough room for this kid at all.

this guy was trying so hard to get into TCU.....when they didnt offer him the scholly he went to TT as a walk on.....he stays in TX.....I bet TCU trys to make good.

I am not sure he would count against our 30 numbers this year if he transfers, but would definitely count against the 85

You guys know he got replaced as a starter by Webb (I think) who was also a frosh. That's why he's transferring.

The main issue seems to be that he was promised a scholarship after his good start....but there seems to be some backtracking on that...TT has some salty commits at QB...so it's an old favorite...a numbers game

Right but he would also not be playing barring injury next season and possibly his whole TTech career.

True..but he knew that before turning down schollys from SMU and Houston to walk on in Lubbock

No way you take this guy. He ended up losing his job to another freshman. Tennessee needs to get a way better talent at QB than this.

Fair enough. In his defense he did start a bit as a walkon frosh. Impressive, but he was below average. Webb wasn't much better tbh

bUTch will not use a scholarship for a q.b. just to fill a slot. If he can't find "His guy" then he will hold on to the scholarship until he finds "His guy"

He did not play although fully healthy for a few games and then started the last two games of the year. Yes he lost his job to injury. Then he was a backup. And then he started again at then end.

So you want a guy who can barely win a starting job at TTech to transfer to UT? Why don't we just bump the Gunner Kiel thread too.
