Bailey vs JG

I can’t judge that Bailey is better at this point because of the nature of Bailey’s playing time.

What I can do is determine that JG is really bad and that giving someone, anyone, else a chance to see if they can do any better is worth a shot.

I was so POed at halftime that I went to bed so I never even saw HB play. When you have a chance to potentially score with time left on the clock and you waste said time and just run out the clock, then what does that say to the team. "We Don't Trust you". Playing not to lose is the same as saying we can't win . If you lose by taking chances and pushing the envelope, that is acceptable to me. I'd rather go down trying than just lay down to be run over.

I know there are 80 trillion threads on this, but ...

... is Pruitt literally the only person on the planet who doesn't see that Harrison Bailey is better than Guarantano?

Defending, with Deflection. Blown coverage is your responsibility, Coach.

With 2 extra, made fg's, the score would have still been 23-30, Coach.

Stop me if I'm wrong but I think that being the players coach that he is, JP doesn't want to scar JG for life in whatever career he chooses after football, ergo he continues to give him the starts and failures to bide him over. Amiright
That's not normal reasoning when you consider how many chances JP has already given JG. Had HB gotten a normal spring and fall camp JG woulda been done after1st half of Kentucky game. Happens everyday in the league.

I like HB's poise, the way the offense responds to him, and I like his misses better than JG's misses, too. His eyes seem better, too, at least at spotting TE's.
He still kind of got the "deer in the headlights" look. I can't wait to see him, when the lights fully go on. I'll bet CJP is kicking himself, for not committing to getting HB ready.

HB seems to pick up a blitz and has pocket awareness. He can get the ball out quickly to his hot route receivers. Not sure if this is instinct but I do know all the good ones seem to have it.

Theres absolutely no way JG comes back next year, right? You’d think he’d just leave on his own. Bailey last night looked good and Auburn was certainly not just rolling over at that point, they were blitzing him. He would identify pressure and step up I pocket, made some nice throws, etc. imagine if we had started this guy since beginning of season. I’d bet he would have gained valuable experience and we wouldn’t have lost to Arkansas or Kentucky. Who knows though. Go vols

Pruitt throws out platitudes about accountability and it being on him and the coaching staff when the players make mistakes.

Well....when the same player makes the same kind of mistakes over and over and over and over and the coach doesn't do jack sh** about it, it is time for a new coach.

Flat out coaching malfeasance at this point and it is a credit to the players that they haven't completely revolted and gave a good effort last night.

Of course that effort was wasted by a QB who can't process what he is seeing down the field and a stubborn jack*** who keeps trotting him out.

It's time for Bailey to step in and learn on the job win or lose. It obviously want be as easy running this offense when it's not mop up time and defenders laying 10 yards off of receivers. But he looks poised and confident so far. The Harrison Bailey era of Tennessee football has officially began. I may be in the minority but I'm glad we didn't rush it especially as bad as that offensive line was early on.

These reporters and talking heads on radio quit serving up softballs to Pruitt with these questions. Call him out on it. Don't let him get away with that stupid repeating statement every week. Be the one who isn't scared to lose his media pass and ask him this simple question after he answers with that garbage about JG being the best. Coach, I got a follow up to that if you don't mind. Sure, go ahead. Coach, are you freaking serious, the guy has a losing record, you bench a running back for games if he fumbles, or hits the wrong hole. Why does JG get a continual pass with his inept playing ability? Are you capable of being a head coach yourself, or are you frozen with fear that people will see you as the failure you see yourself as?

We need some hard hitting questions! Not this creme puff crap these Knoxville guys do.

Virtually everyone on this board does. Most of the announcers realize it. Other coaches realize it. I wouldn't be shocked if Chaney, Tee, and / or Weinke realize it.

This is getting absurd. JG led the offense to 10 points in an entire game. And he gave Auburn 7 points, so that's a net of 3 points for JG's offense. You really expect the defense to hold the opposing team to 0 in the modern game? Even if we hit the 2 FGs and we have net 9 points on offense under JG, that's ridiculous to expect the D to hold Auburn to 7 points!

I don't know if we win or not with Bailey, but game would've been close. Bailey has put together more nice looking drives in garbage time than JG has all season. Mizzou has been using a true Freshman starter and it's paid off. With Bailey, we're no worse than 3-4 and maybe 4-3 or 5-2. And for all the good Pruitt has done while he's been here, continuing to screw the QB position up big-time calls into question his entire judgement.

Also, just depressing to see Eric Gray rack up 173 rushing yards and 49 receiving yards and have that wasted with poor QB play. Eric Gray is having a great season and no one is taking note, because it's completely overshadowed by JG's awful play. Indeed, Gray would probably be doing even better if defenses weren't keying in on him because they are unafraid of the passing game.

The longer Pruitt continues to trot out JG as the starter, the hotter his seat is going to become. And what message is Pruitt sending to QB recruits with this? That he'll play the worst player so long as they have seniority?

It's one thing to lose. It's another to lose because your coach is too stubborn to see what almost literally everyone else sees. Though, I fully expect to see us roll JG out as starter against next week after a "great week of practice." And if we lose to Vandy's true Freshman QB with JG, it's going to get ugly here.

</ end venting session>
Yeah, I told my wife last night that even if Gray rushed for 300 yards per game, if the ball doesn't go into the end zone, it's just gaudy numbers that fill up the stat sheet. After Bailey went in, they kept showing Guarantano on the sideline. The look on his face may have been the realization that he is the reason Tennessee isn't winning. Hopefully he will tell Pruitt that he needs to play Bailey from here on out. This season is lost, and Bailey is most likely the starter next year. Put him in in real game situations and let him learn on the job. Look at the kid from Vandy. A true freshman that looked lost early on this season, but as the season has gone on, he is picking up confidence and playing very well. Hopefully he doesn't go off next Saturday, that would be so humiliating for Tennessee.
