Historic Losses and the Bounce Back

It sucks... losing to Georgia State. It’s a real kick in the penis. It happened, but I think this team can bounce back. We should at least give them some time and fan support for now.

I’ve read several articles about fan reactions and the players have definitely taken notice. But the players are fighting and learning from mistakes from that last game and want their best for Tennessee. I don’t think many of you realize how far fan support goes. Fans don’t realize how powerful their voice actually is.

We single handedly dethroned Currie as AD and kept Schiano from getting the job. How many fan bases can say their voice holds that much sway?

Our ridicule and mockery actually carries weight. Imagine what our praise could do. We can boo our players or encourage them to fight on. Their is no excuse for a loss to Georgia State. It’s inexcusable. Yet, this is a team full of kids learning to be men - don’t belittle them, build them.

We should demand and command greater from our team and it’s coaches. But dragging the coaches and players for a devastating loss should be beneath us. The time also hasn’t come yet to call for Pruitt’s head. He deserves more time if for no other reason than he still handedly outcoached Aurburb and Kentucky last year. Calling for a firing this early is truly absurd.

How about we actually genuinely pray to Almighy God for the PEOPLE that make up this football team instead of *****ing all over them after a tragic defeat. Half of Volnation needs to grow the hell up.

I think the worst thing our fan base can do is expect us to "bounce back" against BYU. They are further along as a program, have a better QB, are more physical and are stronger at the line of scrimmage. Very likely they win Saturday.

Tempered expectations.

Not being sarcastic, but what specifically makes you think this team can "bounce back"? Also, are you referring to the BYU game, or the entire season?

I never said that. I just asked what makes the OP think that this team can bounce back based on what we saw Saturday.

Where is the evidence of this? Practice still looked ho hum to me. A player said there was a players only meeting, but we don't know how it went or what was discussed. The only way we will see is if they actually play with effort. I've stuck by this team at times when they were terrible over the last decade, but at least usually played with effort and tried their best. The last 3 games, that has not been the case except for a hand full of players....That's hard to support.

So you can guarantee how the rest of the season will go?
I have no idea how this season will play out. I can guess based on what I saw Saturday, but I would love to hear your thoughts and predictions.

Perspective. BYU beats us by 14-17 points. I’m thinking 3-9 for the season at best. What you saw on Saturday is pretty much what we’ve got.

It wouldn't be the first time a team bounced back from a terrible defeat. In fact I expect us to play much better. That doesn't mean we won't struggle with some teams, but it doesn't mean we end up having a bad season either. GBO!

They ( most of them with a few exceptions) went out and half assed their way to the worst loss in our history. I don't respect that. It's not always about talent, I'll never be mad at a player that gives everything for that Orange shirt but still comes up short. On Saturday very few of our players could have left that field knowing that they did all they could and that sickens me. In my opinion most of them aren't fit to wear our colors. That being said everyone at Neyland needs to be loud and supportive, maybe we can spark something in them. I doubt we will but it's worth trying

No one, other than maybe CJP, hopes you are right more than me. I predicted 7-5, but I just don't see it happening now.

I am still waiting on your reply JMSqb11. What do you think the final record for UT will be and why?

The folks refusing to hold Pruitt accountable need to stop treating the coach like he's a damn god.
If we come out and screw around most of the game against BYU he should be fired at halftime. I'm tired of seeing an unmotivated team. That being said he can still change my mind. I fully supported him until Saturdays tragedy

Reading the comments to this reasonable post has made me realize how far our great program has fallen. Losing to Ga St is unacceptable, but it happened. It appears that the coaching staff overlooked the game. But it is done. I'll be watching the rest of the season with tempered expectations. But I'll admit that loss broke my heart.

Tennessee is supposed to have one of the best coaching staffs in all of CFB. The product we saw on the football field last Saturday was as poor a coached bunch of so called SEC football players as i’ve ever witnessed.
What have these coaches been doing the last year, going through the motions?

BYU OL. Hyams said none of them are younger than 22 years old. This is just a quick look up. Probably missed a couple.

Tristen Hoge (6-5, 306)
Brady Christensen (6-6, 295)
James Empey (6-4, 300)
Chandon Herring (6-7, 300)
Keanu Saleapaga (6-6, 310)
Kieffer Longson (6-7, 310)
Harris LaChance (6-8, 305)

Pray away but i doubt God was very bothered by the loss Saturday..Bigger things to deal with i suspect.

However, the entire Volnation was overly positive last Saturday was a win. That didnt seem to impact the pathetic coaching job that was put forth. Pretty sure the vast majority were positive CJP and company would embarass themselves the last 3 games theyve coached...didnt help.

I have zero predictions for the season. I think we will bounce back and win the next two games however in my opinion.

I do think Florida could either blow us out or they can make the same mistakes they did vs Miami and we hang around.

Ultimately, to me, it comes down to QB play and if Pruitt will have the guts to bench JG if he stalls out vs BYU this weekend.
