Wait till the new and improved JG has an actual coach behind him.

I have a feeling we are finally going to see why he was so highly touted in High School

Makes me feel better about the combo of Chandler, London, and Banks/Coleman. The best thing for our offense is liberal use of the handoff.

I'm still upset about Boulware. I don't know which came first the chicken or the egg concerning the drama and playing time. Yet another casualty of the last staff. But, I'm pretty confident in the fact he was twice as good as Jack Jones last year, who started and played in front of him the first 1/2 of the season. Sucks that he's gone. Really really could have used his talent and experience this season. 2 years to play too.

Maybe I haven't followed the soap opera close enough. But, has any reliable news come out about his reasons for leaving?

He was beaten out twice by QBs with less natural talent at Stanford. Not optimistic

He ended up taking the starting job from Burns, who was the SR QB and went 6-0 after he took over as starting QB. Burns was a 4* Recruit. Costello was a *4 and ranked higher nationally than Chryst was. Still Chryst was 13-2 as a starter, had a 19/6 TD Int ratio 128 QB rating, Only negative thing is 55.4 completion % but Stanford isn't exactly loaded with good receiver's. 3 of their top 5 pass catcher's was a RB not named Bryce Love and 2 TE's. Chryst never fully got back to how he was the prior yr, because of a severe knee injury. He had surgery that caused him to miss 6+ months and was limited when fall camp began. He's fully recovered and the mental part of that is gone too. He will also get better overall coaching here than at Stanford, with better WR's and skill players to throw to. Bryce Love, their best offensive weapon wasn't used much as a pass catchers.

Stanford's passing game has flowed through TEs for a few years now, though. At his best, Chryst was asked to do very little and was inconsistent.

His best traits for us will be that he's got experience as a starter and that he's big enough to take some hits, which will likely happen quite a bit behind our OL in 2018.

I'm not sure he's got the moxy to beat out JG as the starting QB, but with our OL, we're likely going to end up starting 2 QBs at some point or another anyway. We'll be glad we have him to lean on and hopefully will be able to give McBride and Shrout both redshirts.

Absolutely! He will definitely have a better set of skill players at TN. He played well his Soph yr, but did struggle with consistency last yr. But I still believe him being rusty from his knee surgery and probably not fully trusting it hurt as much as anything. Not having Moxy is usually not anything you have to worry about with California QB's.Rarely will you see a Cali QB without swag and cockiness they all seem to carry.

I'm with you, I definitely believe we have more than one QB make starts this yr. I know Will Friend is supposed to be a really good OLine Coach but curious to see what kind of miracle he can work with this group.

Helton wants to run a pro-style offense. Chryst will fill that role. It's just my perspective and I can always be proven wrong. Having a couple of options is a good thing.

I missed the London transfer (I think I was in the field). If he can stay healthy he may surprise

It seems our offense may still be having an identity crisis. We have dual threat QBs and now a pro-style - so which is it?

I personally think a dual-threat is the way to go in college.

Agree on your last statement. It works on the college level beautifully if you have a QB with legs that can throw it too. A guy like Dobbs was even able to make a coach like Butch look halfway competent

I think ideally you want a guy who can at least can make defenders miss and pick up a first down here and there on a blown play or when nobody is open.

Someone like Baker Mayfield might just be the ideal CFB QB IMO.

Not like there were a whole lot of great transfer guys beating down our door to take the job. Better keep the Rolaids handy.

Chryst is the best QB on the team the day he steps on campus. He was a huge pick up for us.

He isn't even close to being as good as JG. He is coming to be a backup to the superior, younger player.

JG had a better year as a freshman on a losing team than Chryst has had in his career while playing with Heisman contenders.

He was a huge pickup because we need a better backup than McBride. That is the only reason though. He is a good insurance policy in case the actual quarterback gets hurt.

But were they less talented than JG? Doubtful.

Chryst is less talented. Most QBs are less talented than JG. NFL size and arm. Accurate. Takes care of the ball. Athletic too. Not too many have his talent.

I'm sure you know that though. You just have an agenda.

Why would they when they know JG will start?

Most QBs know they aren't starting over a guy that hit 67% and over 9 ypa his last four starts as a freshman.
