The intensity of the game yesterday reminded me of the days before we had "stars" and relied on scrappers.

Somewhere in this forum last year there was a comment about Pearl being good with alley cats but not fat cats (I think that was the analogy).

The question is "how long can Pearl convince fat cats they need to play like alley cats?"

who knows, but that's what me and some other fellow vol fans have been saying for a while. the "stars" have egos, and aren't as hungry as the less talented guys

Great point on this thread. I think that CBP really emphasized that in his locker room speech. Something to the effect of: If you want to get good feelings like today, it takes a lot of hard work.

This thread brings Bradshaws name to my mind. Not the most talented guy on the court but no one could match his heart.

A big "if" here but:

If the team can adopt this attitude we might be able to show better in the tourney since we shouldn't be as tired at the end of the season (given we didn't start the frenzy until January).

With the contributions from the young guys (Hopson, Hall, and McBee), one would hope the incoming freshmen next year would see the work they put in and try to emulate it.

Uh, our biggest recruit on the team is Scotty Hops, aka Fat Cat, right? He also played the best, followed by our other highly recruited scholarship players. One clutch 3 from Mcbee doesn't mean we'd win with all walkons. We have a lot of talented players, thanks to good recruiting by CBP. All of our starters were heavily recruited. Whoever was thinking Tyler was better than Wayne wasn't paying attention anyway.

I don't think anyone is saying that we need all walk-ons. The team did have a scrappier attitude, including "fat cat" Scotty Hopson who did a lot more driving to the basket than outside shooting. Also, if you're saying that anyone other than Bobby Maze (a lowly 3 star recruit) had the best game yesterday, you weren't watching.

The answer to that question is how guys like Self, Williams, K, Knight, Calhoun, etc win the big ones.
