Huge ratings for Tennessee's Battle at Bristol over the weekend

According to Sports TV Ratings, the Battle at Bristol attracted 5.8 million viewers over the weekend to watch Tennessee prevail 45-24 over the Hokies.
In fact, the UT game did so well inside the state of Tennessee, it outdrew the state’s NFL team in its own backyard.
According to the Tennessean, the Battle at Bristol drew more viewers from Nashville than the Tennessee Titans’ season opener played in front of the home fans at Nissan Stadium. The Vols attracted 226,756 mid-state television viewers Saturday, while the Titans got only 215,864 on Sunday.

BoB was a HUGE success for not only the team but our program as a whole. I wish I could have been there.

Will UT get a cash prize from ESPN for the high ratings?

In appreciation, they will try to put something positive about UT on the ESPN ticker for one day. Usually, they seek out the most negative UT stat they can find, so this is an unprecedented show of goodwill on their part.

Between Gameday, primetime ABC, and few other watchable games all weekend, the Battle at Bristol was huge for exposure. Big ups to the event organizers and universities for finally putting this together and, in doing so, practically perfecting a neutral site game.

Vols had more Nashville viewers than the Titans' season opener. Hopefully some who occasionally question whether or not Nashville is Vol country will remember this the next time they do.

A lot here love and watched both. I agree though, college football prevails. I don't almost have heart attacks by watching Titan games. But I can't even eat if the Vols are losing. 😂

I've never minded the "Tennessee Titans" name but I've always thought of them as more of the Nashville Titans. The state's mantle has always belong to the Vols in my mind, though once upon a time I was much more into the Titans, especially during the early McNair/Fisher years. We all stretched with Dyson on that last play. But anyway, after that core group moved on in 2003, it's never been the same. And I think while pro teams move and relocate and move and relocate, this will always remain Vol country.

As good as the ratings were there were 4 week 1 games that far out-rated the B@B which I was a little surprised to see. There was quite a bit of hype for the B@B so ranking #5 for the season seems a bit low. Oh well.

There's only one Tennessee football team, and it isn't in Nashville. It should have been the Nashville Titans leaving no question that when football and Tennessee are mentioned it's UT football.
