B.J. Coleman

Haha.. UTC actually played a couple of pretty good teams though.., Kyper sure sees something in him.. And he gets paid the big bucks to make those decisions.

Don't get me wrong, I hope Coleman makes it but Kiper also said Ryan Leaf was the better prospect than Manning. He misses on a lot of prospects, ie Tom Brady.

We'll never know..ol Kiffin told Taj Boyd to take a walk too which was a brilliant move...in hindsight

Bingo, this is the same guy that told Cam Newton and Tajh Boyd to hit the road while recruiting Matt Simms. So I tend to believe whatever BJ's side of the story is!

Without Brandon Stewart leaving Tennessee, he never beats K-State in the Big 12 championship, and we never go to the Fiesta Bowl in 1998.

Fate. :) :eek:k:

You do realize that we took the #1 spot in the BCS after the UAB game and never lost it.

You're about the 100th person I've seen post that. I'd like to know where this misconception got started.

That's not remotely close to an accurate depiction of what happened with Newton or Boyd, but go ahead and embarrass yourself. You can believe BJ all you want. Fact is, he wasn't good enough to play here

Fact is Boyd and Newton were good enough to play here and Kiffin told them to keep walking. He later used the not fitting the system excuse.

Despite all the bashing he gets, his draft analysis proves in my opinion that he made the right choice... There is no experience better than playing time. You don't get paid millions to play college ball. He made a smart choice, especially when you look at how many NFL QB's went to mid-major schools, you realize playing at a D1 school isn't the only option for making it to the nfl.

Ryan Leaf made millions, which is an important bit of information to include. Kiper wasn't the only one that missed. Truth is, BJ Coleman will probably make more money b/c he went to UTC than he would have if he went to UT. In that respect, it was a good move.

Logic won't get you as far as you think in this conversation.

Fair enough, but he didn't look all that great 4 years ago.

He was a freshman playing in an extremely vanilla offense when he played against vandy in '08. I'm not saying one way or another if he would have been good here, but it's not really fair to judge with what limited time we say him play.

Talked to him several times. The story BJ tells is that he went to meet with Kiff, waited over an hour and a half for him, while Kiff walked by him 3 or 4 times. When he finally did sit down with him, Kiffy told him that he wasnt his guy and never would be. Take it or leave it, that is the story Coleman tells.

I just watched a video where he was being interviewed by a news guy and just by hearing him speak, he sounds like the LEADER that Tennessee has needed the last couple of years.

BJ Coleman has been getting all kinds of love with the draft analysts lately...kinda makes you wonder, what if? What would've happened if Coleman had stayed at UT? Would Bray still be a household name in Knoxville, or would Coleman have taken the spotlight?

Good luck to BJ.

With that said, I have seen some early 2013 NFL mock drafts with Bray going as early as 2 and 3. FWIW

This is what I've heard too and personally feel he has no reason to lie. You take the fan emotion out of it and realize he felt he may have a future playing football and didn't see it happening here (for whatever reason one chooses to believe). He transfered somewhere where he thought he could make that a reality. He wasn't a quiter. He didn't not want to be here. To think so is just plain childish. He did what we all would've done and thought about his future. And it looks like it might pay off. I personally wish him the best of luck.

On a side note don't you love that the same crowd calling Coleman a quiter are the ones saying Kiffin just did what was best for himself and his family.

When he was a freshman at UT Eric Berry was quoted as saying that BJ was the leader of the class. He was a great student and strong in his faith, but he also had a great work ethic. For those reasons Cutcliff wanted him. Who knows if BJ would have beaten out Bray, but I KNOW that if he had stayed he would have at least been a great backup last year when Bray went down. He truly could have been the difference in several games as he provided that Senior leadership we so desperately needed last year. Stayed and competed? Yes, that sounds good, but if you are the best QB in the spring and the coach still tells you that you aren't going to be his guy, then what is left? He wasn't being given the chance to compete and anybody on that team who knew him will tell you BJ was/is a great competitor.
