Awful breaking story out of Indiana

here in Georgia people traveling the other direction often won't stop. I have nearly caused an accident a couple timess and been honked at numerous times for stopping. I think the law is you have to stop but it gets ignored.

I think another difference is on a divided road in Georgia the opposite traffic doesn't have to stop but in TN you do.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to stop in Tennessee of your on a divided highway going the opposite direction either.

Edit: here's the code

(3) (A) The driver of a vehicle upon a highway with separate roadways need not stop upon meeting or passing a school bus that is on a different roadwayor when upon a controlled-access highway and the school bus is stopped in a loading zone that is a part of or adjacent to the highway and where pedestrians are not permitted to cross the roadway.
(B) For the purpose of this subsection (a), “separate roadways” means roadways divided by an intervening space that is not suitable to vehicular traffic.

There’s a video out of MN I think of a cop hitting a cyclist while on his phone. The biker had his GoPro on and was stopped, the cop cuts the corner taking a turn and just plows him. Then is kind of like you were in my way. I think he was charged.

P.s. if this happened to my kids I would post her bail.

That’s heartbreaking. That family is ruined forever because of one person’s stupidity. And now the driver’s family is ruined as well since she will most likely go to jail for a few years and her kids won’t have their mom around.

There should be a federal guideline for accidents involving a bus and children. If you ignore the stop sign and injure someone, mandatory 5 years in prison. If you kill someone, mandatory life sentence. I bet that would get peoples’ attention.

I wouldn't doubt she was going that fast looking at the damage to her truck.
Hard to believe looking at the damage that 4 kids caused it. She had to be doing well over the speed limit*.

*someone posted 80 MPH, but the articles I read, speed was not mentioned other than the road was 55 MPH.

This story is so sad. It's hard to imagine the pain level that family is going through.

It's also hard to imagine the other side of it as well. What were you thinking!? Not only did you ruin that family's life, but you also ruined your family and childrens chance at having a mom. Is that speeding, not paying attention, getting drunk/high (in other instances) worth it?

BREAKING: The 24-year-old driver said she didn't recognize the Rochester bus until it was too late.

A witness traveling behind her said the bus was "very visible" and estimated speeds were around 45-50 mph

The Bus Driver

Jumper said the bus driver said he had driven that same route for "a couple of years" and that he had stopped and activated his lights as he normally does in the morning before he waves the kids across the street to get on the bus.

The bus driver told Jumper that he looked and saw the vehicle at a distance and waved the kids to cross the road because he figured there was no reason that the driver wouldn't stop.

Jumper said the bus driver didn't realize the vehicle wasn't stopping until it was near his bus and he hit his horn at the last second, but there was nothing he could do.

The Witness Driving Behind Alyssa Shepherd

Jumper said the witness told her she had been following the pickup truck in front of her for a while and was going about 55 miles per hour when she caught up to her. The driver said they went around the corner and she slowed down to 45 miles per hour and she could tell there was a school bus stopped with all of its lights activated so she started to slow down.

The driver told Jumper that she realized the truck in front of her was not slowing down as she saw the headlights illuminate the kids as they were crossing the road.

Alyssa Shepherd

Shepherd told Jumper that she does not typically driver her husband to work, but that she had just dropped him off Tuesday morning and had three children in the back seat of the vehicle. Shepherd said she was not sure how fast she was going but that she is typically a "slow driver."

She told Jumper that she was not late for anything that morning and that she was taking her little brother to her mother's house so that he could get ready for school.

Jumper said Shepherd told her she came around the corner and saw the lights, but was not sure what they were and by the time she realized that it was a school bus the kids were right in front of her.

Then you slow the f*** down.
