Auto bids for MWC?

If they add Boise State, then 100% yes, as they would be head and shoulders above the Big East and ACC.

Problem is they do not have the markets that the Big East and ACC does.

Big East 1979 31

MWC hasnt earned their dues yet. They've only been around for 11 years and want to sit at the adult table. Uh, no. Earn it and you can. Until then, shut up.

This will help their conference, but I don't by that teams the even the better MWC teams would be serious contenders in the BCS conferences on a regular basis. The exception may be the Big East, but I don't think they would be in any other conferences, including the ACC once Miami and some other teams pick it up a little. At least not until they started recruiting better, which being in a major conference would probably help with.

How does the amount of time they've existed have anything to do with how good they are?

The MWC+Boise State have been consistently getting quality non-conference and BCS bowl wins for a number of years now, and if I'm not mistaken they have posted a pretty solid bowl record in that time span as well.

It's obviously subjective, but if BSU joins then I'd honestly find anybody hard-pressed to convince me that the Big East and ACC (as they are now -- FSU and Miami down) deserve BCS bids and the MWC does not.

The BCS is a coop of conference who banded together in essence to make more money. All 6 conferences are well established and have gone thru the rough times and now they are prospering. The MWC in all their 11 pittly years wants to jump into it and be an equal. Answer is no. You dont elevate the 21 year old sales rep to the Board of Directors because he had a few good years of sales. Prove yourself and then you'll be considered.

All the non BCS teams have to do is form them own little BCS. Let them band together, negotiate tv contracts and bowls. Heck, even set up their own little playoff and see how it works. If they can make money at it then the BCS will pay attention. If not then we'll know for sure a cfb playoff isnt feasable.

Are you being serious?

why not? You have the MWC, WAC, Sun Belt, CUSA, MAC. They can form their own little club and do what they want.

Why not try the playoff here first. It answers the question of will it work. And I'm not talking about answering the question of who wins. Its a question of will a cfb playoff for Div 1 teams work feasibly. Can teams travel over the course of consectitve weeks as well as their fans and in the end, the bottom line is better than the previous system. If it works then the BCS has to take notice. Not only will they implement a playoff, they would welcome a merger. If it doesnt work, then we all know why the NCAA or BCS didnt want a playoff.

Why would the lower tier of conferences have a playoff for absolutely nothing? There is no national title for being the 'tallest midget.' That would answer no questions about a playoff because nothing would be on the line.
