Austin Rogers torn ACL

That is ludicrous. He's slow, and can't catch, there are 3* freshman that would be more valuable. He was a good kid with no talent.

Ahmad Paige was a 4* and hardly played.
Todd Campbell 3* didn't play.
Tyler Maples 3* didn't play

And those were just the 3* freshman on our team.

Hopefully kiffin will recruit better. He did last year with James Green, Nuke and Zach Rogers
but still they are only 4* 4* and 3* respectively.

3.66 star average vs 3.33

Crawl back in your hole.:eek:k:

It sucks that he got injured. However, he was not a great wide receiver, and it is ludicrous to state otherwise. We have young receivers that will end up receiving more playing time this year due to this injury, and they will likely be far better than Austin will be next year. Despite the fact that medical advances now allow a player to return the next season after a torn ACL, those players virtually never play up to their previous level during that first season back.

He was not fast at all, I'm sure somebody sat there one time with a stop watch and timed a 4.4, who cares.

Name one time the guy beat somebody deep. Name one time he caught a pass and broke away to make a play. Name one time he got the ball in his hands and made something happen.

wes welker never beats any body deep. Is rogers our deep threat?

Who happened to catch 56 balls for over 600 yards in 2007 as the second option...

Rogers caught a pass in the left flat and split two guys at the goal line in '07 and went across the middle to make tough catches the other guys dropped because they knew what was coming. He was tougher than the other two guys that got more of the accolades, imo. Speed - no.... but toughness - yes!

So, basically, he's a really crappy version of Fred Biletnikoff?

Hahahaha....thank you. Comparing him to Wes Welker is laughable. Rogers was a tough kid, but he dropped it as much as he caught it, and all his "clutch" plays were never in big situations.

was just using him as an example that a WR doesn't have to have deep threat speed.

I will not take part in bashing a hurt player. Hope he has great career at whatever he does in life though.

I do to, I'm just saying he was a below average player who would not have been a game-changing player on this team.

Penn Vol I think you and everyone else knows how I feel about his ability. So I'll let you other folks bash if you like.

no, but welker catches balls short and turns them into big gains. He had multiple gains of 30-40 yards in 07. and in 08 he had a few 30 yard gains and a 64 yard one as well.

austin has one gain of over 40 yards from last year and other than that, he's only had a 30 yard catch once. If rogers is actually "fast", he doesn't make someone miss and turn a short gain into a big gain like a fast player who doesn't have deep threat speed should.

oh and rogers had maybe 5 catches in his career of in the 20's yards range...alot look to be catch and no YAC.

First, and this goes for any UT receiver, throw out last year. QB play was so bad there's just no way to judge WR talent. I've said it before and I'll say it again that if we had Pickens, Meachem, Gault & Witten running patterns last year our passing game would have still been mediocre at best.

What do you think the over/under is on the number of WR's this season catching at least 50 balls for over 600 yards?

Yeh, you go to him when you need some tough yards on 3rd down. We'll leave the juking to Jones.

You all shouldn't be looking at 2008 anyway like the above poster said.

In 2007 Rogers had 56 receptions for 624 yds and 4tds...and 2008 he gets 14 rec's for 180 yds and 0td's?? Something's wrong there and it isn't the receiver.

In this case, bashing this guy is an example of a lack of class from some people. I don't care if he wouldn't start for the worst a NAIA or TSSAA class A team, it's completely trashy to act like you feel bad for the guy then rip him the next sentence.

I only brought up the 08 stats b/c they included the longest play of roger's career: his 49 yard reception against South Carolina. I realize that our passing was so bad last year that the stats dont do any justice for anyone, but I just felt I should include his career long

same here. just included 08 b/c of his career-long 49 yard rec vs South Car.
