IF you have kids, by all means, raise them your way. I raised mine like I was raised and have never had one ounce of trouble from them so I know it worked. And they are raising theirs with the same values and discipline. (Discipline entails far more than “beating ass”.) Mom always told me not to get into a battle of wits with an unarmed man because you’ll just get frustrated. I’ve reached that point. Carry on.
I don't think people have been emboldened. Quite the opposite. Many rightly live in fear of saying the wrong thing as it can cost you your livelihood. 1984 is now.I totally get your point. The comment didn't cause any real harm and may not indicate how the Auburn student truly feels....but it probably does.
US nationalism is currently a hot button topic and our president has made comments that embolden people with that mindset. I'm not going to debate his policies because it's not the right place and I do agree with secure borders. My point is that there needs to be some sort of reprimand to show that acting that way is not acceptable. That was done.
I can't imagine other schools trying the make the case that Auburn is somehow xenophobic because a drunk student yelled something dumb during a game. No recruit with half a brain would believe that. In fact, it would probably backfire.Auburn has a right to decide who is allowed in their arena based on their behavior while there as much as any corporation has a right to withdraw support from an artist who says something they don't agree with. In my mind this had implications with how Auburn could recruit internationally and they felt the need to take action to show they won't tolerate that type of behavior. If you think other schools wouldn't bring it up with international recruits if nothing had been done I don't know what else to tell you.
Would have been easy to say “you won’t be accepted by their nationalist fanbase” if nothing happened because no discipline at all would have implied institutional support for that kind of behavior. “First sign of trouble and they’ll be asking for you to go back to your country like they did with him.” The discipline effectively kills that argument to me like you had said, though I would counter a bit with the fact that not all basketball recruits are highly intelligent (several are like Grant, but remember Ramar Smith, etc. making questionable decisions).I can't imagine other schools trying the make the case that Auburn is somehow xenophobic because a drunk student yelled something dumb during a game. No recruit with half a brain would believe that. In fact, it would probably backfire.
Thanks for posting. It saves me the time and effort.Have to say it does offend me. If one can not use the name of God in a way of worship, it is using the Lord's name in vain. Just saying. I have nicely asked people at work to please refrain and it usually works. I dont make a big show of it and usually will attempt to take them to the side.
