I was just thinking about all the "sky is falling" threads about attrition the past couple years. I personally have only followed the guys that transfered here to UTC (where they actually got less PT than they did at UT). Anyone know how some of the others have done? I know a lot from the last batch are still sitting out, but most of the treads were focusing on the "trend" over the past few years.

I am gonna scour the interwebs later to get what i can and maybe we can complie some numbers to see how many we "lost"..

I expect Dewayne Hendrix to have a good career at Pitt beginning this fall. We will probably hear Vic Wharton's name at Cal this fall as well. Hendrix is the only very good player that I think we've lost to transfer and with the addition of Kongbo, even he's not that big a deal.

Speaking of Wharton, fun fact....he's expecting a child in the very near future. Assume it's with his girlfriend. My son who knows Vic a little bit told me this a couple days ago.

Of the guys who have recently left the program, I wished we had Helm here. I expect him to thrive with Cutcliffe at Duke. We have lots of bodies however zero proven ability behind Wolfe.

Agreed. Of all the guys who left, Helm hurt as bad as any. Along with Wolf, they were set to be a dynamic pair of TEs. When he left, running the two tight end sets was not as effective an option.

Had he still been here, we might have won a couple more games.

Wharton leaving felt the worst though. Hated losing a legacy player that worked hard to bring more players into the class. If he were still here, he would be my choice to start in the slot this year.

Those were the exceptions. Most were players that should have not been recruited. It's tough to see players on the roster for multiple years who have hardly taken snaps. As a coaching mentor once told me, it's not Social Security. It's tough looking a kid in the eye and telling them they are not wanted or needed.

With all due respect...we should have won several more games anyways. Helm wasn't the reason we lost.

Helm is the biggest loss IMO. Could have really used him this year. Hopefully one of the unused guys steps in this year and performs.

Hendrix next. His size may have made him moved inside where we could use 1 more body this year.

Wharton ... maybe? Could have developed into a playmaker by his Jr year. Unsure.

The rest probably + attrition.

Now, injuries & suspensions. That has had a bigger impact. No way we lose all four of those games with Curt, Gualden, Croom, North 100%, Barnett 100%, Pig, Von, & Jackson last year.

Did we ever figure out why Vic left? That one came out of nowhere

That one surprised me as well. He was an early committ and ambassador for UT prior to his arrival. He caught a TD pass in the bowl game, then....he left.

They were treated very nice in the recruitment then when they got on the practice field the mean coach yelled at them in not so nice words.

If Croom emerges as the TE we are hoping for, we will be more than fine this year even if our new recruits don't play. I think he will be great.

Hate that we lost all of those close games, but the positive from it is that it serves as a learning experience. Players will be determined to NOT lose games; especially, letting a close one slip away from them.

Vic had a history or hopping from one school to the next prior to committing to Tennessee.....3 high schools in 4 years. He's not quite the person he portrayed himself to be during the time he was acting as the recruiting pied piper for the 2014 class. He's at his 5th school in 6 years....I'll be shocked if he sticks at Cal for 4 years...shocked I tell ya.

Thanks KB.

You may have mentioned that before and I just forgot. This jumping around in HS seems to be gaining popularity in terms of getting exposure. In this day & age is it really necessary?

Hendrix
Helm
Wharton
Jenkins
Brown
Carr
Ferguson
Carter
Miller
Scott
Payne
Sawyers
Henderson

Only a couple have a chance to pan out. But at the time, it was the worst thing ever. This should be remembered by every knee jerk weak fan that comes to VN.

Yeah, it's a crazy deal, kids jumping all over the place. I know here in Middle Tennessee that a lot of kids from the Murfreesboro area tend to wind up at a Nashville private school (CPA, Ensworth, BWood Academy for example).

As far as Vic, I'm not sure why he left Knoxville after his freshman year to go to CPA, could've been because his dad got a coaching gig there....but I know he was forced to leave CPA and then wound up at Independence. Really not trying to bash Vic, but I've heard from several reliable sources that he's perhaps not the highest character guy you'll ever meet. Even saw a couple of instances of that personally on the basketball court during his junior year. A lot potentially at play to help explain why he left Tennessee, which surely seemed to be his dream school, after just one season.

Speaking of Riley, when did he end up at Memphis? I haven't kept up with him, but I thought he was transferring to Charlotte?
