I agree. Since the bench seats are squeezed so tightly I figure you could have 1/3 of the bench seating empty and the place would still look completely full. People would just spread out and still be close to touching shoulder to shoulder. I wouldn't be surprised if the actual number of bodies in seats was in the 60,000 - 65,000range (that was my estimate for the UAB game based on sampling rows around me yet it was announced at 98,000). I agree that the pre/post game parking lots and street traffic is also a good indicator.I doubt there were 80,000 there. I have been to over 100 games at Neyland.
I have NEVER seen traffic so light on 17th St. an hour before the game. I've never seen so many half empty parking lots.
You could see empty seats everywhere. People spread out when it's not packed, and it looks a lot fuller than it really is. There were 4 of us in Sec, C row 48. We had 8 seats of space. There were empty seats all over the place around us,
