What time will traffic heading into downtown start backing up? We can come in either of two ways: Down 85 from Chattanooga or in from the W. on I-20. Is either way faster or less congested than the other when getting into downtown?

Coming back from Orlando back in Dec. I hit bumper to bumper traffic coming IN at 3:30, about 36 miles outside. ATL. It took me two extra hrs. coming back from Universal compared to going on a Sun. morning. It was crazy.

There is A LOT going on in downtown Atlanta this week-end. I would allow extra time. Its gonna be a zoo down there. Football games, Dragon-Con (you will see tons of very odd people walking around... Not including the NC State fans!)

A good idea that shouldn't be affected by traffic is to park near an outlying MARTA station and take that into downtown. There is a station that is near the Dome that you can get off at. That's what we did for the '06 SEC Championship. And the MARTA is fun to ride if you haven't ridden it before.

Best decision I've ever made was to ride the Marta in for the '09 bowl game. Train takes you directly into the Dome...no traffic, no hassel at all. No way would I try to navigate Atlanta traffic on a Friday.

1. It is a holiday weekend.
2. Dragon Con is going on (sci fi convention).
3. It's Atlanta on a Friday.

Pray your hotel is near a marta line. Or what mrmax said. I feel sorry for ya.

20 sucks.

75 sucks (from chattanooga).

It's atlanta...and this is a workday...AND a friday. Everything will be backed up.

Plan on it taking at least an hour to get from Barret PKWY to the Dome. Maybe 90 mins.

I live near that area, and it won't take that long in the middle of the day....that's going against traffic in the afternoon...once you get inside the perimeter is when it will slow down....take the Northside Dr/Howell Mill exit and follow to Marietta St straight to the dome and parking and avoid the downtown connector is the best bet.

That's not accurate! In the afternoon 75 north is the problem. Going south will have much less traffic

I live and work in Atlanta. My 5 mile commute home on Friday is going to take me 25 to 30 minutes. There is no easy answer to this other than leave earlier than planned and remain patient.

Last time I was in Atlanta I arrived at 12:30 pm on a Friday via 75 south from Knoxville. Traffic wasn't backed up, but super thick, eight lanes, folks doing 100 everywhere. I'm not gonna lie, it was some pretty scary shiz.

For all using Marta. It's the vine city station that is right across the street from the dome. Fyi!

LOL. But no, I drive pretty fast myself. I'm not sure that was the worst part. With 8 lanes it creates an optical illusion making the lanes look REALLY narrow. Or perhaps they are narrow. ATL and DC are probably the two most adventurous places I've driven.
