Nigel Warrior, S, Tennessee

New Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt is a defensive back coach by trade and should help Warrior elevate his play into a spot among the SEC’s top players in the secondary. Warrior recorded 83 stops, three pass breakups, three forced fumbles and one interception last year.

I wonder if his play has been impacted by the lack of defense plays being made by others and look forward to seeing if the new coaches can elevate his play.

We REALLY need one of our under rated QB's to have a big year for us. It's a team game, and all, but good QB play will put us on our path back alot quicker.

WE nor any team in football needs outstanding QB play to win. WE just need QB play that does not hurt us. Very few turnovers of any type. Hit the high percentage passes on third down or learn to throw the ball away. Take what the defense giveas, you have 3 plays to move ten yards. If we get to the point we have consistent QB play that does not hurt us, then we can move along to QB play that exceeds that is my view.

I hope Tennessee football this fall reflects a whole lot of under rated and “haven’t played up to their potential” athletes kicking butt and performing all out on every play. We would be better with a balanced, solid performing football team than a few prima donnas on a team with weak areas exposed by our opponents. I hope our players are taught to play hard and not look for personal satisfaction or reward. No I In Team. Seams these coaching videos I’m seeing are moving us in that direction. Having said that, We need more Warriors.

I hope that by the end of the 2018 season we look back and decide our DL was the most underrated group on this team. Last year was abysmal for the DL.

Unfortunately our coaching staff last year was way overrated so some of our players are now considered underrated.

I thought coming in that Warrior had the potential to be an elite safety. We haven't had that since EB left. Hopefully CJP can bring that out of him.

I hope a lot of players prove to be underrated after receiving some better coaching.

That's going to vary year to year, depending on the talent a team has. Sometimes great QB play is the difference between winning and losing. Clemson needed great QB play from Watson the year they beat Ala. Oklahoma needed great QB play to get as far as they did last year. LSU has elite talent most years all over the field, but bad QB play has killed him the past decade. If it was as simple just getting 10 yards every 3 plays then defensive coordinators would have a very short shelf life. There is years that a team can win with a game manager because they are so good everywhere else. JG didn't hurt us last yr as far as turnovers and his stats were decent for a guy who was 0-5 as an SEC starter. But he also couldn't get us in the endzone when we needed it. Just like with Dobb's, he had to be great in a lot of his wins and when he wasn't great it usually ended in a loss.

I don't think anyone inside or outside Volnation ever confused our staff for being overrated. We probably had one of the worst top to bottom coaching staffs in the power 5. It was an embarrassment, that an elite SEC football school had that staff roaming the sidelines every gameday. When you get out coached by Coach's at UMASS, S.Miss, Ga Tech, UK, Vandy, Mizzou and even Coach 0 and Jim McElwain, then you realize the horrible coaching our players were getting. How we were 3 plays from being 7-5, is something I'll never be able to figure out.

We have tons of highly rated players. Last year's team was #12 in talent based off each player's recruiting ranking. And we added more talent than we lost in this class plus the Transfers. So based off player rankings we are top 10-12 in scholarship talent. Now we have the Coach's to give those players the coaching they deserve.

Having Warrior be an elite safety won't really mean a whole lot if the defensive line doesn't get much better.

Those defenses EB was on weren't good either. The impact on the game he was still able to have with opposing offenses throwing and running away from him was incredible, but there's only so much a safety can do. I'd much rather have the secondary be deficient and the D-line be good than the other way around.

Worst case scenario I think Chryst can be a game manager for us and we have an offense that focuses on running the ball and making few mistakes.

IMO we need to see big improvement in OL play more than just about anywhere on the team.

I want both to be amazing, but I'm greedy like that!
