Athlon Sports rates Ty Chandler as Top 10 RB in the country

I've been out of the loop for a bit...safe to assume that Carlin Fils-Aime's move to DB was more out of a necessity at DB than CJP's confidence at RB?

If your playing “what if” and your rating only the back and not the line in front of him, he has top ten potential. But, our line won’t be top ten and he will be splitting time so he won’t finish top ten in yards etc.
We don’t know how durable he will be, but there have been backs that were way more durable then they have looked.

Cam Akers...Breakout season.....Did anyone at Athlon see him last year?
I do think Ty will have a good year, but I also think the carries will be split, so it will be hard to judge based on stats.

If he gains an average of 113 yards per game and we make it to a bowl game and he rushes for 113 in it too, then he would set the new school single-season rushing record.

Now before anyone starts with all the reasons they think he probably won't, I'm not saying that I'm predicting it or even "expecting" it as if it was something normal to expect to be probable. I'm big into potential and have fun identifying possibilities, even if they depend on unknowns like how many carries, if injury can be avoided, if Ty runs at least as well as what we saw last season, tougher schedule this season with tougher defenses to run against, etc. Trust me, I'm aware of what a huge and amazing feat it would be for him to accomplish that.

After all, it's a tall order due to so many variables and who knows what odds Vegas would give it?

But... it's not impossible!

True, it's realized a lot of good things would have to happen and keep on happening for the whole season, but from early indications, I don't see any compelling reason to doubt that he's got the chops to break a few per game and pile up 113 in a game. Given that he proves his durability by making it all the way through a tough season avoiding injury, gets his share of the carries, the line is as improved as many of us believe it will be this season, and he delivers that kind of 113 yards production right out of the gate against WVU and maintains that level of production on average through the season and bowl game, then the current record of 1,464 yards set in the 2001 season by the legend VFL Travis Stephens would be eclipsed with 1,469 yards in 12 regular season games and 1 bowl game averaging 113 yards per game for those 13 games. For only the regular season without counting the bowl game, it would need to be quite a bit more yards per game (around 10 more yards per game).

Yes, I understand that even imagining such production this early probably isn't fair to Ty so I don't feel like "record or bust!" or anything outlandish, but does anyone else find it fun to think about this time of year when you have the whole season spread out before you like a blank canvas?

A lot of people downgrade him because he doesn't weigh enough. The best running back in the history of college football, in my opinion, never weighed more than 195 lb. I'm referring to Tony Dorsett

Solid post, my guy. Johnny Majors recruited Tony Dorsett at Pittsburgh (where Majors' team won the National Championship) and Tony Dorsett broke the single-season rushing record for his school there when he was just a freshman in the game that earned Coach Majors his first win there.
