The University's job is to prepare students for their professional careers. That includes aspiring professional athletes. They are in entertainment no less so than, say, drama and music majors.

It appears Tiny won't be drafted because, principally, he was not ready for the combine and other pre-draft workouts.

For all potential draftees, the The Ath Dept should organize simulated events whereby the kids can assess whether they'll stack up and in which areas they are lacking.

For underclassmen, the likely results of the combine and pre-draft events should be known before the kid pulls the trigger and declares for the draft. We're talking about millions of dollars here.

Both Bray and Tiny already had enough exposure to be almost assured of a 1st or 2nd round selection if they stay for the Sr. years. That's a ton of guaranteed money.

It's malpractice to allow these kids to shoot themselves in the foot.

If Bray had stayed it wouldn't have mattered because he would've been sitting right alongside Mo Crouch last season for taking illegal benefits from boosters, which wouldve ended with him not being drafted... again. Why do people overlook this rather important fact regarding Bray?

They don't take "Underwater Basket-weaving 101" because they're smart, ya know...

These kids know what is at stake during the combine process. Also, there are various draft committees, and I would be shocked if UT does not have a pro sports council that these kids can consult. Don't blame the Athletic Department when they did nothing wrong.

This is in no way the Athletic Department's responsibility. There are experts who do this and provide information to players. It is the responsibility of the player and their family.

No our other 3 linemen weren't drafted because they didn't perform to their potential this past season. We were murdered all year in the trenches. Oregon whipped us up front from the start to the finish, Florida did the same. Tiny should have came back for his senior season and he would have helped himself as well as the team. When players leave prematurely it kills me. Just like Dennis Rogan, he ppossibly could have been a mid round pick his senior year but he left in Berrys shadow and went umdrafted

Let's not get crazy with the 1st or 2nd round assurances for Bray and Tiny. They both had great physical tools but both lacked mental focus. That is huge in the NFL. Bray didn't have the work ethic to be a 1st or 2nd rounder, nor the wins to show he could still lead his team without all the preparation it takes. I don't think that would have changed if he came back and had to learn a whole new system. In Tiny's case it's hard to say a guy that went undrafted would have been a 1st or 2nd round pick if he had just played one more season. He would have had to show an awful lot to make that jump. Not saying its impossible, just unlikely.

And it was obvious they just didn't want to be at UT anymore. Some guys just get sick of playing college ball and following all the rules and having every aspect of their lives critiqued and scrutinized in the process.

Yes, but somebody smarter than a 20 year old should be able to tell them they're not ready and make it stick.

It's a multi-million dollar decision.

The Seniors get first priority with the coaching staff. The underclassmen are own their own.

Pete Carroll publicly advised Mark Sanchez to stay at USC. Sanchez didn't listen. These guys have agents and draft services in their ear. They also believe they can work hard and move up. It's their call. Let's quit making up reasons to blame admin and coaches for everything. The idea that a UT official could talk a projected 1-3 rd pick who is broke out of a chance to make big $, is naive.

When nearly everyone was saying he would go in round 1-4 and at worst case make $400,000 or more per year to take care of his family, I'm Sure he was going to listen to the athletic dept!

With all due respect, this is really a dumb statement! How do you know what the AD said to Tiny? The bottom line is Tiny made the best decision that he thought was best for him, period. I'm sure Tiny talked to a lot of people and carefully weighed his options. To blame the AD is just plain ignorant.

The draft is the great measure of your schools roster and talent- difference makers Not many total picks in the past 4 years conpared Bama, Lsu and now TAM. They have a lot of NFL players on their rosterand we don't, they have been successful and we have not lately. in the past 3 years Bama has had close to 25 players drafted. Pretty simple to understand why they win a lot of games

Absolutely. "Tiny, bring that bum knee back and attend class and play with a raw offense and see what happens". He could have come back and helped stock, OR could have torn knee up more or/and played self out of draft. The guy made his own decision, his life.
