Calling run up the middle with 2:00 minutes left on the clock and Bama stacking the box.
Not good.
I know our kicking and corner backs lost us the game but why run up the middle with time running out.
We actually had one more chance at a win.

Well a run up the middle before halftime got us a 40 yard gain. Hurd always gives us a chance.

Probably because when he called for passing it = a sack ?
I agree not the play you want, but when your overmatched on the line whatever play you call usually turns out bad

I had ZERO issues with coaching/play-calling all day. It was a hard-fought game and we just came up a little short. Unlike the other losses, there really aren't any plays that I can point to that "lost" us the game (outside of the missed field goals of course).

Even on Bama's winning drive, their clutch catches came against good coverage, their receivers just made a better play.

Mike Debord called a good game. Honestly, I am tickled pink at the performance by our guys yesterday. They played their hearts out. Kudos to Jancek as well. He made adjustments and did not allow Kiffin to scheme big plays on us.

No issues with that call. Had plenty of time and still needed to run the entire play book IMO.

the problem with this is it wastes a down. Then we are 2nd and 11 and that happened several times yesterday. I can't believe how many times Dobbs was told to tuck it and run up the middle.

I have to agree, matter of fact, the whole game they kept their nose tackle to stop Hurd. I addition, with Bama's defense being so aggressive, I don't remember any "gimmicks" to take advantage of that and how many passes to the TE? Bama left the inside seam wide open, oh well.....just my 2cents.

Great result but it was the third bad up the middle call. Did much better in 2nd half after we mixed it up. It was conservative play at the end of the half when we had three timeouts and time in the clock. Must be analytics.

Yes our D played lights out considering our Depth, everyone stepped up and Jancek definitely earned his paycheck ....

He was thinking he'd get bama in a pass rush mode and could bust it for 8-10 or more. Obviously wished he had it back after the call but he doesn't have that luxury.

My only complaint was there were several new plays ran earlier in the game that Tenn never came back to. No guarantee that bama could have made corrections during the game. It's not as easy to teach during the game as we all think it is. Jmo

I know cbj told debord after that no more runs up the middle

The offense still has some work too do to beat better teams. Need Dobbs to get better and the Oline to get better.

I thought you come out passing mainly because there are two minutes left in the game. I would like to see some more throws wide to Kamara he was making good gains on those all night.

I was thinking about giving my 2 cents on why, but then I see you put blame on the CBs for losing that game. So there's no hope for you.

No problem with the run up the middle. I liked the last play less(obviously). I think Josh's biggest weakness is as a pocket passer and the OL's biggest weakness is pass protection. Overall though DeBord had a good game. We were in position to win the game against (and God as my witness I hate to say this) a better, playoff bound team.

I agree with OP, bad call. After the game my dad and I were talking and I said...as an Offensive Coordinator you have the ball on the road at Alabama with a chance to win on the final drive of the game and those play calls were the absolute best you can do? You can't expect to win without some creativity at that point.

I just can't give Jancek a pass on yesterday.

Yes, the defense played over its head for most of the game yesterday. That being said, Bama still went down the field with ease with the game on the line.

Just like Florida. Just like Oklahoma.

The Stewart fella made a circus catch. Seems to happen to us a lot for some reason. Just not our time yet. Not sure i can place blame on that one. Cam Sutton.. For all the hype he's gotten about being a shut down corner, he's given up several big catches. Ridley, a freshman out jumping him for the ball late in that game comes to mind. Bama doesn't have scrubs for receivers, but our best corner is getting beat repeatedly when it matters.

Here's my problem with DeBord: the longest pass play of the year from scrimmage was to Josh Dobbs. Our leading receiver, our TE, has 218 yards on the year.....after 7 games? This with 4 and 5 star receiving talent on the roster. North has 46 yds for the year......46. Our downfield passing game is the worst I've seen in a while and it makes you wonder how many yards our run game would have if we were at least a threat throwing it.

I agree. I used to get so PO at Randy Sanders for doing the same thing.
