I mentioned that a Tennessee win tomorrow would dwarf any upset the Vols have pulled in my lifetime. That prompted the folks with me to ask if I could come up with anything comparable from the other two programs I am confident I can speak with a level of historical expertise about, Oklahoma and Miami. I came up with one. In John Blake's first year at OU, the Sooners were 0-4 going into the Texas game, with the most recent loss being a 52-24 home loss to Kansas in which the Jayhawks had scored touchdowns in every way imaginable. Final Score at the Cotton Bowl that day: OU 30 Texas 27 in overtime. That's as close as I can come to an optimistic post this week.

I have my daughter this weekend and I'm glad for it because I won't be able to watch the game live.
I will tivo it and then after she goes down for the night, I'll watch it..

I can't think of much else worse than watching a high-anxiety game AND having to deal with commercials. ....and the gushy "Tebow bromance" from the broadcasters..

plus, having her there will probably prevent me from screaming at the TV...

How about Stanford v USC a few years ago? Or UCLA v USC when UCLA won by a couple of points? That was around 2005 or 2006, I think.

I feel the same way. I can't remember any other time when we were a 30-point underdog.
The spread is simply a measure of Vegas guessing the betting patterns of the public, not an attempt to measure the teams. Thus, I don't take it into account when measuring an upset. For example, Tennessee was a smaller underdog in the Sugar Bowl against Miami than they were in the '01 Florida game but the former was a much, much bigger upset than the latter. I mentioned the '96 OU-Texsux game because it was an example of the worst team fielded in the modern era by a program defeating an eventual conference champ.

You must have not seen that Oklahoma team play. They'd be a 45 point underdog tomorrow.

I don't remember that team, I was 12. I see they finished 3-8, Texas 8-5. But it still doesn't quite compare.... If UT's players have watched any TV this week, they should be absolutely fired up though.

It would be upset of the year. Would love to celebrate that.

Sadly, I think tomorrow is going to look a whole lot more like that OU team's 73-21 loss to Nebraska.

If Kiffin and Tn somehow comes us with the surprise..... What do you think it would do for recruiting, the future..etc ???

Kiffin would become an instant legend if that were to happen. I just don't see it happening though. The talent gap between the two teams is wider than the Grand Canyon at this point. But that will change in the near future.

I agree that tomorrow's upset of florida would rank right up there with the greatest in VOL history (although I will always be partial to the 85 Sugar Vols).

A couple of others I remember from way back 1970 USC upsets ND 38-28
and then ND with the "Green jerseys" upsets USC in 77 49 to 19.

GO VOLS make history

If we try to throw the ball very much it could get ugly real quick. If for some reason the cosmic order get in line and we dont have a ton of turn overs it will be closer than that. I think a 3 td loss is what we are in store for.

Imagine that. A damned 3 td loss and the world will think we played better than expected! What a fall from grace we find ourselves.

Florida opened their season with two cupcakes. They haven't played anyone yet. If anyone is a betting man I'd take TN -30 in a heartbeat

Florida thinks they're going to just walk all over the vols and I've got news for them, it's not gonna happen.
