Fantastic write up about the man we know as Butch. I love the man's character and determination.

Tennessee Vols Coach Butch Jones takes 247Sports home to Michigan

"This is what you dream of, your hopes and goals to achieve it and be here, a special place like Tennessee with such tradition,” says Barbara Jones, tears welling. “Sometimes I have to pinch myself. I walk into Neyland Stadium and can’t believe this is where we’re at. We never take that for granted; I appreciate it every time I’m at the stadium. I get emotional. Who would have ever thought walking down that hallway into Neyland Stadium …”

I know its always possible a coach leaves for a better job, but not only does it go against what I see in his character to leave UT for say Michigan after hitting success here, but it will kill his entire "family" philosophy he has. He may leave if there's success, but I really believes he loves to be here.

I love Butch. Think he's absolutely the right man for our program (fingers crossed on game day aggressiveness).

But this article over-reaches when it says Butch is one of two people in the state of Tennessee who have the clout to claim the governorship. He's not there yet. In fact, neither Phil Fulmer nor Johnny Majors ever made it that high. Among all the coaches of any sport at all the universities in the state, only General Neyland and Pat Summitt became that deeply loved and (potentially) powerful.

But there's certainly hope that Butch will end up that high in our collective esteem. He's done all the right things so far; just gotta keep it all going, and win championships.

Go Vols!

Awesome story, this is a family that Tennessee has asked for, and to love two states the way they do is just awesome.

Go bUTch!

Agreed on the claim for governorship comment. I think their intention was to say that Tennessee football is significantly important and beloved by so many that it almost feels like he could be.

Never say never, and we did experience this with Lane Kiffen, but.......

If one experiences great success at a school like Tennessee, why would one leave? I am not going to lose a blink of sleep over it.

Someone posted an article @ Butch when at Cincy. The statements about him being in love with the place, people etc sounded eerily familiar to this and others. Then he left.

That was the Debbie Downer part. I think he's a passionately successful leader who loves what he does wherever he does it. If he wins a natty or two here or something, I will be crushed but totally understanding if he jumps to the NFL for the opportunity and the coin. Don't see him going "lateral" in CFB unless we rehire Hamilton.

Nice article. I really enjoyed it. But,i hate the fact that the Jones's had to contend with a reporter around their family outing. Leaders and there families need unwinding time for a multitude of reasons.
