So You Want To Be A Foster Parent

That is the link to my fostercare blog. It starts somewhere around the time we got certified and were waiting for our first kid.

Things got reallly reallly hectic for a while, and I stopped writing. But I am slowing trying to fill in the gaps.

I cannot get the site here at work, or I would just drop pieces of it in here. But if you go there, you have to Navigate to the first post, and then read forward. Im trying to find an easy way to navigate that, but...here at work....sigh..

anyways, feel free to drop pieces of it in here, and ask questions.

I thought I was done with kids too...

My two oldest (18 and 16) are all mine. Somedays, when they are incredibly stinking awesome, I look at them and think.."wow, the mailman must have been one really cool dude", and then other times I look at them and say...'Yup....all mine"

My boy, wow. He is 4. Him and his mom were our first foster kids. She was abused by her mom and dad, and had run away with her sisters husband. They were missing for almost a year, and then she decided she couldnt have a baby in the woods, and showed up at a hospital in Knoxville just in time to have the kid. She went into states custody (she was only 15) and was at a group home with the baby, and with 12 or so other kids. The father of the boy went straight to jail, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars.

But the group home got shut down because the family running it were trading sex for drugs. So she was keeping that drug habit going full tilt.

She spent two months at our house. Going to alternative ed classes, drug rehab, counseling. She couldnt live like that, and ran away one night leaving the boy sleeping in the bed.

It's been a long 3 years since then. They found her 50 weeks after she ran away. And then she started fighting for custody of the boy. Ha, yeah, I dont think so scooter!!!

We adopted him on 8/9/10. A lot of ups, and a few downs. The boy is a handful sometimes, but I love that kid. He is incredible. (and he is the first kid in the history of his 3-4year old Tee Ball League to hit one out of the park. He doesnt know it yet, but he is my retirement plan!! hahaha

That's awesome gatorBill. You sound like a good dude.:hi:

Now I feel bad for eating that gator when I was in Panama City last week. I hope it wasn't a relative.

That's cool you help/helped foster kids GB. I have a close friend that is trying to help a 16 y/o out and i know their patience has been tested severly. Hopefully yours is young enough to grow up right.

It takes away a little of the fun of harassing you.

But not all

oh, Keep harassing. That is not a problem. :good!:

And thanks. We have been doing this for over 3 years now. We just shipped a kid out last month. She turned 18, graduated, got married, and her husband is in the Army so she shipped out with him. Im not sure I would want my daughter marrying at 18, but Im sure that for this kid it was better than going back hom.

We still have a 14 year old, and just last night got another one. It seems that DCS and the agency we go through have decided that we are doing a good job with these teens. :)crazy:) We all know that teenage girls are drama anyways, but when they are fosters, you can multiply that x1000.
