Some things gleaned from the UT picnic yesterday.
If you are not a lawyer from Florida, you may find some things to interest you...

Tennessean:Bryan Mullen

On WRs stepping up from Ainge...
While fans and critics ponder and pontificate, Vols players and coaches appear less miffed. And the reason has nothing to do with wide receivers.

"We have two tight ends back who have big-game experience," Vols quarterback Erik Ainge said Thursday at UT's Davidson County All-Sports Picnic at Lipscomb. "We have three running backs, myself, and the offensive line. We don't need a Robert Meachem at wide receiver. We just need some guys to step up and make some plays."

Veteran depth at two important positions..
...running backs LaMarcus Coker, Montario Hardesty and Arian Foster. Couple that depth and experience with veteran tight ends Chris Brown and Brad Cottam, and the Vols believe it will allow time for the wide receiver situation to pan out.
"Both of them are veteran positions," UT Coach Phillip Fulmer said. "I'm very encouraged by the way Arian Foster has gone about his business and the progress LaMarcus Coker has made. We're starting the season for the first time with Montario Hardesty being 100 percent healthy. I'm real encouraged about those guys."

Ryan's Hopes?...
...Ryan Karl, a former Battle Ground Academy standout, is improving and he is expected to be able to participate in the majority of this next month's workouts.

"They're telling me he will be ready and maybe limited in the first week or so," Fulmer said. "I don't like the way (the injury) sounds, compression fracture in the spine. They say he's going to be fine, but it's my job to get somebody else ready if he's not.
We won't push him," Fulmer said.

Jerod on Cal game..
"Those guys came in last year and they were kind of shocked with the 105,000 fans in the stands," Mayo said. "I'm going to miss the fans, but we've been a good road team. It's a business trip. I'll go back to California later if I want to take part in some leisurely activities."

The century mark...
Fulmer will coach his 100th game at Neyland Stadium when UT hosts Vanderbilt on Nov. 17

Have a great weekend y'all...

One more thing from the picnic....

Our own vol4eva attended and he had some interesting conversations as well....
Well I went to the picnic tonight and had a great time. I got to talk with Jerrod Mayo and Erik Ainge. Ainge thinks Vinson and O'neal can be very good. He said they are just as fast, if not faster than Meachem. Mayo thinks we are going to do well this season. Later in the night when Mayo was talking to the audience he mentioned he couldn't wait to crack some skulls. Ainge says we are alot more physical than last year. Bruce couldn't be there tonight because he was out recruiting. Dane had a great speech, as did everyone else. There really wasn't anything said you all haven't heard before.(Jerrod Mayo is a beast.)

Foster has no choice. Well he does, give up and quit but you have to encouraged by the way he is using the disappointment to grow. Let's hope it works out for him. If it does, the team will do better.

Agreed he only had 2 ways to go. Says a lot about the kid that he's able to use it for extra motivation and I hope it works out.

Things that interest me right now, with actual practices a week away.

Ainge's comments about his TEs here is not the first time this offseason that there has been mention of tight ends seeing a more active role in our offense. Couple that with the reporting that Cutcliffe spent a good bit of time this spring studying the way the NFL's Saints got their talent involved on the field... and the practice time spent on Peyton's no huddle system... and one can't help but wonder what the Volunteer offense is actually going to look like on the playing field...

Jerod is not the only player keying on the thought of more physical play. If toughness bug is genuinely spreading throughout the Neyland-Thompson facilities, only good things can result.

Arian is the least of my concerns friends...

I called EA as the breakout player of the year for the Vols last season.

I'm calling AF as our breakout player this year. Coker's good- but I think AF has something to prove,- and I feel sorry for those that have to tackle him.

I know all of our assortment of coaches over the past 10 years have all said "we have to get the TE's more involved in the offense." But they never do. Which may be the very reason they don't seem to stick around for very long. :)

Don't hold out. What'd you drink? What are you planning on eating? The suspense is killing me.

Well, I had some water. In the past, I had some other water, but I don't have that anymore so I have to use the strengths of the new water. Its not like I haven't had to use new water before, so I look forward to seeing what the new water can do.

Food? Well, I have some options and I am waiting to see at luncthime which of the options looks best. That'll be the time I make my starting line up for food to eat.

Signed, Ainge & Fulmer

Too bad beer doesn't have poptops anymore.
Maybe then you could step on one, cut your heel, and have to cruise on back home....

Have a good weekend LG, and stay away from betting low straight draws...

:) I'm just messin' with ya! Its a slow time of the year and to my knowledge no one has ever shown up on media day and said "We are going to be really bad at position X this year" or "I want to punch Spurrier in the noggin', where is that bastard?"

I don't bet draws unless I sense weakness and I might be able to buy it. I rarely just call with them.

I heard Fulmer physically looked bad and got the least applause of him, Summit and Pearl (who was not even there in person).

Fulmer looked a little larger, but I think it was the suit he was wearing. He got the same amount of applause as the rest of the coaches.

I agree. AF has all the characteristics of a prototypical UT back...4 yards per carry and make the tackler pay.

And in other news I had a drink of water.

Later, I plan to eat something.
Man, if this Vol talk is so damn boring for you why don't you just ignore it, then maybe everybody wouldn't think your inane comments are so annoying..
