Mark Wiedmer this morning sprayed buckshot all around what's not right in Knoxville. But his centerpiece, the idea that Fulmer deserves another season is poorly supported.

My own opinion is there's a reason for that. It's impossible to present a well supported notion like that.

TFP:Wiedmer Commentary

No VolNotes this week. I just ain't in the mood. Sorry.

Fulmer turning this season around would be nothing short of a miracle at this point. Its funny how some seem to think thats exactly what he'll do. I can't see it happening with this current bunch. They're just not very good and thats a fact.

Don't say that! 'Cause if he does it, we'll be stuck with him for another 10 years. That said, I don't see how it pulls if off this year. We're just not good. At least we have not shown it to date.

You got it all wrong. This "bunch" has the talent to beat anyone. (Excluding Crompton) Just don't have the proper coaching.

I think of it as a total package deal. Overrated talent and overrated coach. You figure it out. "Bunch" included the coach and coaching.

I don't agree that we have the talent to beat anyone, there are more than a few teams that have better talent. We do have the talent to be very competitive in this conference and I agree our coaches obviously have not instilled the discipline and work ethic needed. Fulmer has never been known for coaching kids up, like it or not Cutcliff was the one that did that.

ESPN - SEC mailbag: Tide ready for the blackout - SEC

Steve from Atlanta writes: Hey Chris! Rocky Top is rumbling and I can feel it even 200 miles away in Atlanta as even the most staunch Fulmer supporters are jumping on the bandwagon of a head coaching change. What will it take for some big changes to be made in Knoxville?

Chris Low: At this point, a 6-6 record would definitely get Fulmer. He would not be back under that scenario. A 7-5 record would put him in real danger, and the climate around Knoxville would be such that I'm not sure he'd want to be back. My guess is that this team ends up somewhere around 7-5, which will make things interesting. The absolute worst-case scenario for Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton is for Tennessee to go 8-4 in the regular season, lose in a lower-tier bowl and finish 8-5. Fulmer's new contract stipulates that his deal is automatically rolled over as long as he wins eight regular-season games. But an 8-5 finish, including a bowl loss, would put Hamilton in a nightmarish position. He'd be feeling some serious heat from fans at that point -- and stuck with a $5 million-plus buyout if he decided to make a change.

if there is ANY truth to that at all, I would be HAPPY to go 6-6 this year...painful as it would be.

unfortunately 8-5 is probably more likely.

i wish i could tell my boss the same thing about work this week.
 Me too..

I just don't know what to say that hasn't been said right now. I prefer to be positive when possible, but lyrics for an upbeat tune are hard to come by.

Plus, the reporting this week is more program than football related, so pickings are slim thus far.

I like Weidmer, but he and his ilk are the same people who said Shula needed another year, that Zook needed another year. Its time for a bold move, a bold statement to change the direction and energy of this program.
