Stephen Hargis of the TFP spoke with BJ yesterday...

TFP:Hargis on Coleman

You could start every morning with a shot of B-12 and a Red Bull espresso and still not be as perky as the likable former McCallie quarterback. The guy makes the Mouseketeers seem gloomy, and any lingering frustration following the most disastrous season in the history of University of Tennessee football has already been replaced by his perpetually positive attitude.
I would hazard a guess that Coleman is the only current Volunteer who welcomes the more strict regime now running the program. The 5:30 a.m. sprints, extra work in the weight room and afternoon throwing sessions have already caused several players, both scholarship and non-scholarship, to quit or be sent packing by the new coaching staff. But Coleman sees only the silver lining.

“It’s all necessary,” he said Thursday. “They’re pushing us to new limits, and we needed this, to be honest. The coaches want to see how far mentally you’re willing to push your body physically. They’re teaching us to look past the pain and push on during game time, and I think that when fall rolls around those of us who are still here will know what an honor it is to be a Volunteer.

“These coaches know we’ve got a very short amount of time to get things going in the right direction. They’re hammering us already, and you better realize that you’re either ready to roll with whatever they ask or move on. The discipline and the attitude are things that got forgotten last year. Those are things you need to win in this league, and you have to work if you expect to enjoy the benefits of playing football at a place like this.”
“I’m focused 100 percent on taking the quarterback job here,” Coleman said. “The guys around me are extremely talented, so I’ll just continue to work hard and show my character and leadership abilities and hope that’s what the coaches want.
“All I can do is continue to work hard and be an example during workouts and on the practice field. I’ll just be myself, because that’s all I can control right now.”
“The new rules are things that always should have been there, in my opinion,” Coleman said. “It’s those type things you can take into the real world, and they also help form leaders. We have real genuine leadership now, and you’ll see the difference come game time.”
This kind of stuff I love to see...

Thanks for the link.

You can't help but like the kid...if only he could improve his arm strength...and of course grow a stache like Jon, the QB position would be set...

If attitude was all that was needed, he'd be the named starter right now. I don't think we know much about him from the Vandy game. I'd like to see him get a shot at starting, and judging from the current staff, he will get that shot.

I like his attitude! I say the starting job is his to lose. Hopefully he can impress the new regime.

The part about Stevens not having the temperament for the job is maybe a little misleading. If the article is talking about when Stevens got into some of his teammates face during the game I think that was what a team leader should have done especially when the receivers are running the wrong routes and are laughing on the side line getting the crap beat out of them. Stevens and or Coleman have shown glimpses of what they can be.

With BJs head and drive, combined with the Kiffin/Chaney coaching double team.... and barring a stud QB on signing day... I don't see how Coleman gets kept off the field this fall.

Remember, Chaney made a QB out of Orton...

and how many has he spoken with besides BJ?

This just reads like a puff piece on a local kid by the local paper. I sincerely hope he proves me wrong but I'm just not that excited to see him on the field.

Coleman is going to get his chance along with the rest of them. But I think if Kiffin watches the film from last year he will see Crompton and Stephens cant throw the ball over the Defensive line. I have never seen more passes knocked down at the line of scrimmage as I did this year. Coleman has good size and I cant really say much else because I have not seen much else! That Vandy game was a fluke for Coleman. That Offense Clawsen was running along with Fulmer not giving him a chance to really throw down the field. Its hard to say what he will look like but I do like his heart and determination. If there is anything Tennessee needs right now its some LEADERS!!!

Well PJ... that's exactly what it is...

football news is few and far between these days, why be so picky?....:p

Coleman telling us these things only make it more and more obvious how complacent Fulmer and Co. had become. If your not training each year to elevate to higher standard and bent on keeping the same ones, then you will fail.

because I can :neener2: Don't get me wrong, I'll take any football news right now but just not ready to name him the starter because he's perkier than Annette and likes to workout.

Everyone bashes Griff's columns so why should this guy be any different :p

Wes Rucker is posting a one on one interview with Kiffin this afternoon. That should be more substantive...

The reference to the micky mouse club was a little over the top. I really like his attitude and i feel very confident the coaching staff can get some production from the qb position.

It will definatly be another interesting QB battle on the hill. I think Coleman will come out on top though??

Just good to hear more discipline coming from the coaches. I'll take that news with a smile any day.

It might have been a puff piece, but it was only slightly puffish in eviscerating the former regime.
