As we have seen, there are many Tennessee fans who do not live in the real world. They failed to understand the reality of the Vols football program and the shape that it was in, when Derek Dooley took over.

The program was almost completely devoid of any SEC talent. Despite this glaring fact, some of our fans thought that we should beat the likes of LSU, Alabama, South Carolina, and Arkansas.

We lost a game that we should have won and our fans threw a temper tantrum that opposing coaches used against Tennessee in the recruiting process. In the end, tour own fans cost us Otha Peters and almost LaDarrell McNeil.

Arkansas used the vitriol expressed towards Derek Dooley by our unrealistic fans base and Otha Peters bit and took the bait, hook, line, and sinker. You can try to deny that this was not the case, the the reality is that Arkansas's coaches used you, used your emotions, and your confused viewpoint of the Vols football program to help them and harm our program.

Think about what the consequences of your temper tantrums may be before posting them. How much longer do you want to work against the best interests of the tennessee Volunteers Football Program?

You are ****ing delusional if you think that fans are the reason people think Dooley's job is in question.

Maybe they are going off his horrible record and game management. They don't need the fans to see that. Add the coaches leaving and the writings on the wall. Be for real. Its DD's coaching ability, or lack thereof that has them saying that. Not anything the fans have said.

If that kid used the thoughts of a fan base to alter the course of his life, then we didn't want him anyway...

I'm sure you're right. I'm sure back to back losing seasons has nothing to do with it. I'm sure 7 asst coaches jumping ship has nothing to do with it. I'm sure the fans did it all.

I wonder how LSU gets recruits seeing how they're fan site makes Volnation look like Sesame St.

I would hope that Peters would have been more in touch with Dooley and the rest of the staff instead of listening to radio and reading forums.

don't forget, as mentioned yesterday on here, that Hart making it clear that "youth is no longer an excuse" probably has something to do with it as well.

Yeah...I have to go with this.

Fans aren't the reason we lost to Kentucky with a WR under center.

Tux, if you think opposing coaches aren't using that to their advantage, then you sir are delusional.

It’s used in as a sales tactic...if you can’t sell them SCARE THEM INTO IT....that’s what happens....so I don’t post STUPID quotes on this site because it is open to all....we should think about closing to control the IDOTS on here...

I agree with OP. Its not just this site, its the constant bashing of cdd and Tennessee by the fans - internet, call in talk shows, etc. It is also the media who covers the vols with the same nonstop talk of the fan base unhappy and talking about cdd being in the hot seat. There has been almost nothing but negative press about TN for a long time now.

We had lots of reasons for the last couple of years of sub par performance on the field, but there are lots of reasons to be excited about the state of the program. We are back to almost a full roster, and the talent is much better now than when cdd took over. We have an opportunity to be much better on both sides of the ball. We have an upper class with more talent and have another crop of talented freshmen coming in.

Unfortunately, cdd doesn't have a proven track record to show our fans he can be a good coach here. He has done a great job cleaning up the off the field issues. He navigated us through some NCAA problems facing the program. He has brought in talent to our roster. He now has things in place where we will know what kind of coach he can be with the talent and depth he has brought in. I have no idea if he is the answer, but there is no doubt in my mind he has us in a better situation than we he came here.

We have what looks to be a good staff to develop the talent we have. He is working hard and I believe we will see results next year. If we dont, then we may need to reevaluate our program, but he has been dealt a very difficult hand, and his hard work has paid off in recruiting and the off the field problems. He needs to start winning on the field next year.

I'll agree with you OP. Obviously if Dooley wins none of this is even considered. But since he is not winning, ANY negative coming out of our program can and will be used against us. Now I'm not gonna blame this board for the problems with our football team. This board didn't make our team collapse in the second half of nearly every game. This board didn't make our team lose to a horrible Kentucky team with a WR at QB. This board hasn't been the reason for back to back losing seasons. But, I gaurantee that this board and our unsettled fan base have been brought up in living rooms across the country, and in one case, the kid trusted what he heard and went elsewhere. Best of luck Otha.

The World Revolves Around Otha. Sounds like a TV series. If a 5 star stud out of HS (B. Brown) collapses miserably and washes out of college after 3 years, what will a 3 or 4 star athlete do? Same? Better? Worse?

Answer: You don't have a clue. This is why us losing Peters means NOTHING. Stop with the insanity. Who cares why this Mama's boy is headed to Ark instead of coming to K-town? It just doesn't matter.

I agree with the theme of the thread. Recruits are young and impressionable, being directly or indirectly influenced. Blatant editorials stated as facts are part of the basis of any opinion. For proof, consider advertisements, political cartoons, newspaper editorials. Although they may not change your actions, you will think about the point being made. To think that any 17 year old (or anyone) can 'eliminate' these influences is a poor assessment of people. To add, that they are not high enough character if they cannot is even worse.

YES - the comments on this board can and will be used to anothers' advantage

Tux is 100% correct, some people never learn.
When the national sports media directs attention to a message board , things have gone way over the top. I hope the negativity came posers trying to torpedo Tennessee, and not our own fans. VN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FLIPS (not wholly though). What in the hell is the matter with you people ! :no::bash::furious3:

I WOULD think that negative recruiting (using our own board, as well as local press) is part of the process, but it is NOT THE ONLY reason we lost some recruits.

Schools loose recruits every year, for many and multiple reasons, but I doubt that Volnation is the one and only reason we lost Peters

DD Sounds like Bill Curry with all this year zero stuff, Curry quit Bama because fans expectations were to high and DD will soon do the same at TN. Look at Ohio if you want to see how an elite recruiter works under pressure.
