Aren't You Glad that Jimbo Is No Longer As Involved With the Vols Coaching Hires

Just for the record according to Forbes Jimmy Haslam's net worth is 8.7B. Mark Cuban's is 6B.

Mark Cuban is TRASH.

Are you trying to say that since NIL started, that highly funded programs haven’t been at the top of the list? You’d be wrong if so.
True, but another truth is, numerous schools have highly funded programs. Money vs ROI at Ok St, TX, aTm, Tenn, Aub, LSU, Mich, USCw, Fl, FSU, and many other is seriously lacking. Making the playoffs and losing in the 1st game, equals finishing 6-10 in the final poll.

However, Haslam wasn't involved with the Pruitt hire. That was Charlie Anderson if I remember correctly and that one didn't go any better without Haslam's involvement.
Nope. After the Schiano deal went through and we fired John Currie and hired Phil Fulmer as AD, Haslam was like, "OK, I'm out." Yeah, it was Charlie Anderson that was the main guy with Fulmer that helped to land Pruitt to Knoxville.

That isn't even remotely my point. It's incredibly jarring and thus amusing to think about college fans being excited that their wealthiest supporters are becoming less involved. Like, how does one make that trip? How much of the talk on here is "we need more money!" "We need billionaires to compete!" "We need the wealth to compete with the big spenders!" All of which could be characterized as fair sentiments. And now we've got a post stating "thank goodness this billionaire isn't as involved."

That is a funny sentiment to juxtapose against the constant howling for money money money. "Are you glad they're not as involved?" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I guess? I don't know. Maybe not. Maybe?

Is there more to dissect? Sure. But I don't care if the Halsams were a good influence or a bad influence, that's not my point and it's never been the point. It's just laughing at the irony. There's layers to the comedy too. Do we need money or not? Do we want the resources or not? What's worse? Haslams or much less money? It's just funny. Bah. Now the joke is ruined. I've gotta go knit this out.
What's amazing to me is that with the amount of wealthy donors that we do have, we should on paper be able to compete with anybody, but they are always bickering or taking their ball and going home with each other.

We don’t have near as many as some other schools.

Couldn’t agree more.

How much longer will the Big Money people continue to donate to a profit-making enterprise without expecting some return on investment?
No problem as long as the program continues to win at a reasonable pace. The problem has never been the Haslam family. The problem has been the idiots running the place. We have great leadership now.

According to?

Rumor and message boards?
Are you stating that Haslam wasn’t responsible for the hiring of most ADs from Mike Hamilton on up till the coup with Fulmer being installed by Anderson? Kiffin came in to play golf with Haslam before he was hired; that wasn’t message board speculation. Fulmer vouched for Mike to Haslam which is straight from Phil’s mouth; Phil also went to Haslam for help when he was being fired. Some of this is/was carried in media; some is in other books etc. The whole reason Phil Fulmer ever was hired was bc Anderson was sick of Haslam running the program into the ground.

I came across this article and was thinking about the times that Jimmy Haslam and the rest of the family used to be heavily involved in the coaching searches and hires of our beloved Vols football team and glad that is no longer the case as he is more focused on his Browns these days.

I am thrilled Foolmer is no longer involved.

Was it a booster named Johnson that he called dozens of times when he was trying to get the head coaching gig?

If it were your money... would you accept a deal like that?
Yes. I would add a clause stating that if I became so delusional to think that a coach like Schiano was a good fight, you would have the right to veto my advice and use my money to make a better decision.
