Are you still confident in Josh “Beuhler..Buehler” Elander turning this around?

We are a contactless group of bats so far this year. Too many swing-and-misses, especially of balls in the zone where they are more hittable. Way too many SO’s with runners on base. Not advancing runners.

E mentioned 3-4 weeks ago he was trying to get some guys to cut down on the huge swings and go for more contact. So far, that hasn’t happened. A group of guys that could get the ball in play would be fun to watch, and at least give us a fighting chance to advance and score.

The paragraph above leads me to wonder if the guys are being too selfish and not playing for “team first” objectives and goals. I don’t know the answer to that, but certainly is something to think about.

I'm not sure which one is more painful to watch, the hitters or the bullpen struggling. Hopefully the hitters can rally their bats sooner than later because I'm not sure how fast the bullpen gets fixed. I do think some of those relievers are being left in too long but there's also the issue of who do they bring in next that can get some outs. There doesn't seem to be a closer on the roster atp.

I won't quit watching, but my expectations for this season are all but gone and all I can do is pray for patience because that's never been my strong suit. I just hope they can figure out how to close a game out before its too late to make the postseason.
I would say the hitters. The game is geared to favor hitting. You need to average 2 homers per game these days

If the old rules were still in effect, I wouldn't bet on this team making Hoover. Shades of Todd Raliegh.

LSU is 3rd in SEC and 29th in country in Returning Production. UT is 13th and 167th respectively. No comparison
Not to mention an example of their “young” guys is Curiel who was arguably the best freshman in the country last year. Whereas the minimal production we did return are mostly guys that we were hoping (expecting) to make the jump to be big time players and they just haven’t lived up to it

I've said this and told Kirby this. A pitcher can't lead the lockerroom. He can change some dynamics and lead pitchers but not the entire locker room. I also do not believe a person can change their personality. You can't take a calm person and make them the vocal leader. It just does not happen. I also don't know that you can recruit them. You just hope that one of your best pitchers and one of your best fielders has it.
Agreed. I think leaders are mostly born—not made. Sure it can be enhanced and developed but if it’s not in your DNA, it cant be manufactured or faked. The kids can smell a fake a mile away.

I don’t think you can keep Abernathy in the lineup right now. He’s hitting .077 in SEC play. Got to see if Newstrom or Bates can hit.
I’m sure the staff has a valid reason that Bates only has 8 ABs (with 4 hits) all season, but with the futility thus far from 2B, I’m shocked he hasn’t received a spot start or three at 2B.

There are several names that have been dropped but there are things that happen that keep players from playing. I'm sure if there was a player that could take that position or others, they would be given chances. Some times, we as fans don't see what happens every day or what happens behind the scenes that coaches do.

I’m not, but is what it is.

In order to win in this league you need to have an ego, have prickheadish tendencies, and not afraid to argue or be confrontational. I don’t see that with him.

I see Buzz Petersen.
Your supposition is false. There are all types of coaches that have guided teams to SEC and National Championships in all sports. Having said that guessing what that particular word means since it appears to be completely made up. I have 100% as much confidence in JH as I do in anyone else that we would hire.

The sky isn't falling. We lack the bullpen arms and elite hitters we had the past couple seasons. Will be interesting to see if he shakes up the lineup soon though. Still think this team can get to the Regional Finals.

I am not sure what kind of recruiter Josh is. It is definitely needed, our roster is lacking in all areas.
Need to see what we haul in after the season is over to make a full decision on his capabilities as coach.

How is the teams psyche after the first 4 series? They look beaten down and when things go wrong they expect it to snowball.

Low. Looking for a leader I'm sure. I just don't who that will be. The ones who can be don't want to be and the ones trying to be can't back it up on the field. We have had for the past several years in both pitching and hitting. I think there are also many, my opinion no one elses, that just don't believe they can be successful at the plate, in the field, or on the mound. When that happens you are doomed. Had that kid a couple of times who had all the talent but none of the belief in themselves and I don't think a coach can force it. BTW, I've had people say that Josh has ruined some guys psyche but if you are playing SEC baseball you have to be ready when your name/number is called. One parent complained in my presence about the situations their pitcher son was put in and I just laughed. I don't think Kirby hardly ever started a clean inning. He came in with bases loaded no outs on multiple occasions each year with Tony saying "keep him on third."
I will say I"m not a fan of the names on the back of the jerseys at any level. Play for the name on the front not the name on the back.

You don’t know what kind of recruiter Josh is? Did you just start following baseball in January? I mean he’s been the head recruiter since Tony has been year. Ask any player

I don’t have any answers but I’m certainly putting “prickheadish tendencies” as a strong point on my next resume.

I’m confident that CJE knows what it’s supposed to look like.

Maybe if Frank was here things might be different in the pen, dude was a legend before he got here and he cemented that legend here.

Of course, replacing CTV is impossible and the fire and attitude may not be CJE’s personality.

I don’t remember which guy he yanked after a 1 pitch appearance but it tells me he can put his foot down. The postgame, he said all the right things.

We just played the defending NC’s. There’s no shame in that one, and I think the staff will figure this out, but the players have some culpability too.

The grind continues and it isn’t gonna get any easier. They feel worse than we do and they didn’t come here to get shellacked. They also didn’t get here without the potential to compete at this level. I have faith but there needs to be a sense of urgency.

GBO!!!
Well said.

Turn it around? Let’s just start with no longer blowing leads in the 8th and 9th inning.

Have to start with that before turning it around even creeps into the conversation.
