Are you still confident in Josh “Beuhler..Buehler” Elander turning this around?

What this fella said! Young team. Coach Elander was basically picked by the team. And given the timing of CTV leaving, that was best case. Yeah, growing pains. Losing in late innings suck. However, the team is going to grow and learn. Let's all be patient.
Saw this elsewhere and thought it was interesting thought…

“I don't think he's as good of a motivator as TV was. TV had guys convinced they could beat anyone before the games ever started, I'm not sure Josh has that same capability?”

Here is what will suck and be the most Tennessee thing ever. In two years, Tony gets fired from SF and takes the Alabama job. Then Alabama wins 4 straight college world series 😆.

I’ve met Coach Elander and he’s a class act. This roster is 167th in the country and 13th in SEC in Returning Production. They are young and inexperienced. Think how much Burke, Moore, Ensley, Tears, etc improved from their sophomore to junior years. I will continue to support E and appreciate that he acknowledges that he needs to also improve as a head coach. He’s a first year head coach and has lots of room for improvement. I always thought 2026 was going to be a challenging year, but admittedly these Sunday debacles have been gut wrenching.

They’re No. 1 is blowing late inning leads.

Two Sundays in a row they’ve been ahead by five runs and lost both. Yesterday, two pitchers were put in the last inning and neither could produce an out. Funny thing is those guys ended up being the best relievers of the inning for the Vols.

I’ve never met him, but I will say Elander does seem to be a good guy. I’m sure that’s why players pushed for him to replace CTV.

Tony's teams definitely were fun with attitude and fire. I'm not sure what this is right now. Elander seems like a nice guy and easy to be around. We definitely need to have improvement with the bullpen. Losing games at the end is not fun.

You did notice how young LSU’s roster was didn’t you. LSU is not a really good team. Their pitching isn’t great.
I did notice how young they were and I also noticed they have a veteran head coach which in my opinion makes a difference Josh is having growing pains along with his young team. The question is will he learn from these mistakes and get better.

Make no mistake, Elander is uber competitive however he’s as “even keel“ as they come. He’s never too high or too low which is great for the grind of a 162 game MLB season, and when you‘re primarily coaching grown men.

Candidly I’m not sure how ideal it is when you’re coaching college kids during a 56 game season. I am admittedly biased by CTV‘s fire, passion, and swagger as I thoroughly enjoyed witnessing it and seeing how both the team and crowd responded to it. I also realize as several players have told me that CTV was “one of one”. He and Elander have been described as different sides of the same coin. Perfect description and both can be successful. One got ejected yesterday, and one might NEVER get booted. And no, I’m not talking about Jay Johnson.

Interesting thought. Perhaps that is the case. I've never met coach before, so I have no idea. Doubt the person that wrote it has either.

I think Josh will be a good coach but this team has issues , the number 1 is our inept bullpen and it’s just not gonna get any better , our offense isn’t very good and has a terrible approach by swinging at too many bad pitches , Arv looked good in the 7th and 8th but the 9th he was awful but still could have pulled it out if our second baseman wasn’t playing right field , our shifts have hurt more than they’ve helped , look our SEC numbers this is our least productive team in quiet a while and our schedule is only getting tougher

@NorCalVol67 Yes @vol66 is a breath of fresh air. Missed him during his sabbatical. BTW, I’m in Las Terrenas, what DR cigars do you recommend?

I don’t think this lineup has any dawgs. Kuhns, Cam, and Mack yes, but where are the dawgs that can hit?

I don't think this team has that alpha like teams of the past have had. You would hope one of the older guys would grow into it but by watching I just don't think it is in their personality to be assertive.

I agree that Mack, Kuhns, Appy are Dawgs. Love their competitiveness and passion. It’s contagious but need it elsewhere but just can’t force it. I don’t know who has that mentality in the position players. As @preacherman20 has confirmed, It’s really hard to be a leader when you are an unproven sophomore or portal transfer. I think Brown, Wright, Grindlinger, and Abernathy might be dawgs in 2027. Lawless was probably our only dawg this season….

Nothing wrong with Elander being even keel, should he get excited over a call that didnt go our way during a crucial part of the game? Most definitely. But not like Vitello did by belittling the umpire after every pitch he thought was the wrong call.

Honestly I believe we lost some games due to Vitello's antics during the game, the umpires don't like being belittled and he is fixing to learn that bigtime in MLB...

You're fighting the good fight in here, TV.

I appreciate it, genuinely.

I've said this and told Kirby this. A pitcher can't lead the lockerroom. He can change some dynamics and lead pitchers but not the entire locker room. I also do not believe a person can change their personality. You can't take a calm person and make them the vocal leader. It just does not happen. I also don't know that you can recruit them. You just hope that one of your best pitchers and one of your best fielders has it.

We’re so close in these games. A hit here and a pitch there and this team is 9-3.

I don’t think you can keep Abernathy in the lineup right now. He’s hitting .077 in SEC play. Got to see if Newstrom or Bates can hit.

I’m not, but is what it is.

In order to win in this league you need to have an ego, have prickheadish tendencies, and not afraid to argue or be confrontational. I don’t see that with him.

I see Buzz Petersen.
Van Horn blows your theory out of the water.

I'm not sure which one is more painful to watch, the hitters or the bullpen struggling. Hopefully the hitters can rally their bats sooner than later because I'm not sure how fast the bullpen gets fixed. I do think some of those relievers are being left in too long but there's also the issue of who do they bring in next that can get some outs. There doesn't seem to be a closer on the roster atp.

I won't quit watching, but my expectations for this season are all but gone and all I can do is pray for patience because that's never been my strong suit. I just hope they can figure out how to close a game out before its too late to make the postseason.
