I'm wondering if the real reason we went for Schiano was because he would've been a cheap hire.

If that's the case, what big time coach can we actually afford?

Does anybody know what our offer was to Schiano? The next coach is gonna have leverage now.

8.4 per year. Gundy

Don't hold me to it but I THINK Shiano offer was less than 4 mil per year

4 mil for Schiano, 8.4 for Gundy is WAY overpaying. A guy who has coached for 13 years, 1 top 10 season, and one championship is worth being the third highest paid coach?

Go back to the coaches you talked to (Peterson) and he would come for that amount. Heck, almost any coach would. Tn can have ANY coach they want if they are offering 8 million dollars. Tn is just now going to overpay for anyone, but overpay by 4 million? No way he says no.

But if you had the resources to do this, why not offer Patterson, Peterson, or the such 8 million? I guarantee they would have listened at least. You make Peterson say no to 8 million and Sunday never happens.

What does 8.4 leave for assistants? I think he will need a couple assistants to be from the SEC or from SEC country. OSUjr doesn’t recruit the SE much. Recruiting is the name of the game. If Jimbo goes A&M, snag Jay Graham in a hearbeat. Heck, offer Jimbo 8.4, he would come in a hearbeat, a lot closer to Fla.

I am authorized to offer you $8 million/year for 5 years. and another $1.8 million for your staff. Are you interested?"

Doubtful. Tennessee isn’t viewed that way to those not from Tennessee.
