I'm just not sure wth to think at this point. I'm leaning more towards we made them look better than they are. I do know one thing, I don't give a damn if we ever see the triple option again.

I expected the dogfight we got tonight. The fact we got the W and came out reasonably healthy is all we could have asked for. I don't envy UGA having to face this kind of offense every year.

They're a good solid team that had won their last 3 against SEC East opponents. With that said, we have a ton to work on.

Shoop came in with a solid plan to stop Tech's base run game, but when Paul Johnson adjusted to the counter run game, Shoop never really made any adjustments of his own, and that topped with them being gassed due to..whatever you call our offense's first half performance, led to what you watched.

Our backside defense on the counters was miserable, linebackers took horrible angles, etc.

We won't know until Florida, but Shoop has A LOT OF WORK TO DO

Everyone overreacting tonight reminds me of an old saying: It's never as good as you think it is, it's never as bad as you think it is.

As with most things, the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.

This is where my head is as well. I thought before and after the game we were much more talented across the board tha GT. I think they are more disciplined and better coached overall than we are. But you can't measure heart, Vol team 121 has plenty of it.

I agree, UGA can keep it. It just seems like it hurts us more since we don't see it but maybe once a decade. We struggled with Air Force about 10 years ago as well and they run this same crap. I was there for that one, we had to stop them on a 2 point conversion as well.

I think our offense will be ok. But our defense is just as bad as last season, which I thought was impossible. We could not slow down GT's offense the entire game, luckily we got the stops when we needed them the most. It's pathetic to give up 655 yards of offense, the most rushing yards in program history, and allow a new QB to break school records on us. I mean that kid was starting for the first time at QB and torched us all night. That's becoming a reoccurring theme...

Hopefully GT is just better than advertised and we will look a lot better against conventional offenses. I hope and pray we do for the sake of all of us. At least we escaped with the W, being 1-0 is all that matters at the end of the day. We did find out that this team still has heart, a competitive spirit, and the will and want to win. That's a lot more than we could say a few years ago. Regardless, tonight was unacceptable and we still have a lot to work on and improve at to get to where we need to be. Go Vols!

I'm not sure how Georgia Tech was advertised but they were 9-4 last season with a win at Georgia and a 38-7 win over a team that beat us (Vandy). The only game they weren't competitive in last year was North Carolina. This had every earmark of a close game.

After looking at their schedule, I am guessing GT will finish either 8-4 or 7-5.

I watch this happen to UGA at the end of every season. It's an awful offense to try and defend. We absolutely sucked in pursuit and got blown off the ball, but I'll wait until after Florida to make a judgement.

I say we just run right at Florida and hope our D can hold up. Dormady doesn't need to throw more than 15 passes.

But the point remains, and we had an entire offseason to prepare.

Many have made this somewhat ridiculous statement - "we had the whole offseason to prepare"

A nonconference, nonrival, unranked opponent game is in no way a point of off-season emphasis for any team.

We weren't focused on this game at all until around 2 weeks ago

They will be good.

We will get much better

It's game ONE and we're 1-0.

Happy to get there against that team.
