Are We In?

If we don't win, I would say we've got a good shot on the bubble, worst case scenario.

If we do win, us fans- oh yeah and the team, rest easy and definatly won't have to sweat it out that Sunday, worst case scenario.

I like to fear the worst in that case.

I think we are in major trouble if we don't beat Alabama. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we lost the rest of our games if we don't win tomorrow.

Are we in? Won't know until the final selection is made. In the 2002-03 season, the Vols finished the regular season at 9-7 in the SEC, 17-10 overall. They received a first round bye in the SEC tournament and lost in the 2nd round to Auburn. The Vols were 5-5 in their last 10 games (prior to selection day, including the SEC Tourney loss) which included wins over #17 Georgia, #4 Florida, and #23 Miss State..... and the Vols were left out of the tournament. Instead, Alabama with a 17-12 overall record and 7-9 SEC record was selected. Alabama was 1-8 on the road that season.... they were also 4-6 in their last 10 games prior to selection.

Do we get into the Big Dance? Or do we need to win the sec tourney?

We are definitely not in right now without any more wins. If we can win two out of the last four games, I think we are in with a 8-8 conference record and 20 wins, and getting a win in the SEC tourney will not matter except for the team's confidence. Most of the so-called experts are saying that we will get in the tourney with one more win and a 7-9 conference record, because of our strength of schedule and Lofton missing four games. However, if we just win one out of the last four, it may come down to how many surprise teams win their conference tournament and maybe turn a one-bid conference into a two-bid conference - so then I feel we would need to win at least one SEC tournament game just to help our resume. Hopefully, we can split the remaining four games, and I think we are a lock.

In 2003, we had a weaker non-conference performance, and Jon Higgins was out for the tournament. They seemed to take Higgins' absence into account, whether that was fair or not.

Slick Rick says, let's concentrate on breaking the losing streak to Alabama. This game is big for our hopes of getting in the tournament.

Has a team from a big conference been ranked in the top 20 RPI and left out of the NCAA tournament?

I think the better question is how far does UT go in the tournament. Most people believe UT is getting in the tournament.

I'm hoping for a sweet 16 birth, but UT will have to improve the defense and shooting a lot at this point for that to happen.

Agreed. The Vols are so young, they sometimes zone out on defense. Its almost like they are still admiring their own dunks, 3-pointers, etc and forget to play defense.

The sweet 16 would all depend upon matchups. If the Vols can press and create 20+ turnovers, they'll usually win. However, if the other team beats the press, and the Vols don't cause turnovers, the Vols usually lose.
