Visiting the recruiting sites I have noticed how some schools have double digit verbals already, and a lot of the recruits that have verbaled are 4 and 5 star guys. I am not talking about second tier schools, I am talking about USC, Texas and other top tier teams. Why are we not on pace with them or is it normal for us to wait until the season to start picking up commitments? This is the first year that I am following recruiting so any insight into the recruiting philosophy would be great.

So far, this class is nothing great, but last year we started very slow and turned out 3rd. You never know what can happen from know until February, March. Some recruits that are commited might decommit and go somewhere else, you just have to sit back and enjoy the recruiting process because it is a roller coaster ride.

It was the same thing last year. It is way too early to worry about that.

Actually, last years class was an anomoly for recent UT classes. We actually had early committments or strong leans from some big names. UT is notorious for picking up the pace late in the game.

However, we should not fool ourselves. Some of these recruits are waiting to see what the UT program does in the fall.

Why do we wait until late to pick up the pace.

Mostly because the bluechippers that don't committ wait until the US Army game or signing day to reveal their choice. If UT had more bluechippers in state (like they did last year) it would be different.

Schools that get early recruits, typically do so with the athletes in their state who have always wanted to play for their respective schools.

One thing that bugs me is how many highly rated linemen UGA already has commits from, paticulalry on Rodney Garner's defensive line. IMO, UTK is still paying the price for CPF's obstinance and not elevating Coach Garner to a position where he would not have jumped ship. While I think Richt is a very good football coach, I attribute at least part of UGA's ascendancy to them hiring away RG.

There is no question about it.

Rivals team rankings were released. UGA has 2 5* a bunch of 4* and hardly any 3*. On the other hand we have 1 4* and the rest 3*.

Yeah, right now we are ranked #22. Those star rankings have been out for a while though. Team rankings just came out earlier.

Its way, WAY too early to worry about it...

I don't think anyone is worried about it as many people have stated we make a late push. I never followed recruiting before now and wondered if this was normal. so let me say it again, this IS NOT A THREAD THAT IS WORRIED ABOUT RECRUITING.

Simmer down...I was just agreeing with what everyone else has already stated...Most of the early commitments are instaters and Tennessee has never had much luck with instate talent...UT always wraps up well with blue-chippers and its just a matter of time before recruits start to dwindle down their choices and UT evens out the recruits...:hi:

UCLA is number one right now so you know things are going to change a lot before it is said and done.

I think I read somewhere that we have about half as many scholarships to offer this go around compared to the last so I would imagine that in addition to us starting slow we only have a handful of offers out on the table right now.

We have offered over 80 kids. The number of scholarships we have now will change before signing day.

They didn't count Gerald Williams in the team rankings so he should bring us up inside the top 20. Its way to early to worry though. I'll be happy with a top 15 class.

Well this class is not going to look attractive to most because we have limited scholarships (we used a whole last year because we got hot late), aaand we are recruiting mainly linemen this year because our skilled positions are basically set for the next 2 or 3 years, but our d and o-lines are not. We are going to fill those spots for sure because Fulmer is great at pulling recruits in needy positions, while on the other hand a bunch of linemen typically don't make a highly rated class.
