Are We Ever Going to Blitz?

if we blitz much this weekend, even with a sophmore qb, Jeffery will have 500 yards passing. the only thing that will stop him is the back of the endzone.

Week after week we don't lay a glove on the opposing QB.

Thanks Coach!!!!

We've blitzed our middle linebacker a few times the other day when he should have checked out of it. McCarrons came to the line, changed the play after he saw Johnson show blitz and he blitzed. He didn't get there, 30 or 40 yard gain can't remember how many yards. They're timing hasn't been good on the blitzes they've called and they're never getting there, so that usually means bad things. Bringing a extra man isn't selling out.

Our secondary cant cover when we drop 7. Dropping less into coverage is a scary thought.

There is no secondary in the country that can give an SEC QB 7-10 seconds and not have a receiver come open .

It is hard to blame the secondary when we have yet to see them play with any hint of a pass rush .

The secondary seems to be athletically sound but frequently our of position and poor technically from bad keys , to bad angles , to indecision. I think Eric Ainge made some commentary on this subject that describes it best .

The coaching staff needs to shore the secondary up technically . They need to keep them out of bad match ups . Zone coverage , with a variety of blitzes . The opposing QB should be forced to find the man matchups ..rather than like the UGA game when the QB threw at the exact same seam 3 timjes before hitting the long ball.

Pretty much. They need to get creative when they blitz and not tip it off where they're coming from. At least twice the other night Johnson walked up to the line to blitz, McCarrons checked out of the play both times and Johnson still blitzed. I gritted my teeth on those a little.

The LB's are very, very young. They just can't run the full package yet. They also can't make adjustments on the fly like that, they just don't have enough experience in the system. They'll get better at that, but like everything else with this team, it's going to take time.

Mlb Austin Johnson did that. Not AJ Johnson. I think he's been around a few years.

Not at middle linebacker.
He's been in the program, should know when you've been had. First tip should be when he walks up and calls out the audible. You might want to get out of that blitz at that point. I don't know maybe that's asking too much.

If we blitz much this weekend, Jeffery MIGHT hit a few and have 500 yards passing; if we don't blitz at all, he WILL have 500 yards passing.

I see exactly what all you guys are saying about our secondary not being able to cover.. but what's worse.. not blitzing and still getting burned or at least trying to get some pressure and still getting burnt... lol I feel like blitzing at least you got a shot at making the qb make a mistake..

My logic is about the same. Give Maggitt a few more opportunities than he's been given recently and see what happens.

I thought that we had one SR and a potential Freshman All American in that threesome.

First season Austin has played LB. You do expect him to check out of that yes, but he is playing MLB out of necessity not talent. Can't call Wilcox out just yet, had way to much success at Boise St. Was that luck?

He's a potential frosh AA because of innate athletic ability and instincts AFTER the ball has been snapped.

I feel we will do more of that this week, it has been a "choose your poison" with our D, and we have concentrated on putting 8+ men in the box, think that will change this week since Lattimore is hurt and USCe will rely more on passing the rock.
