Are We Ever Going to Blitz?

Our secondary cant cover when we drop 7. Dropping less into coverage is a scary thought.

I agree however, our corner play has been awful. Not sure we want to blitz and leave them all man to man.

we do. Sometimes they pick it up. Sometimes they hit a quick pass to right where we blitzed from. We dont have the coverage skills to make up for the blitzer not being back in coverage.

Only thing we can "safely" blitz is a lb, and they have put some pressure on the qb.... when they don't get picked up.

I don't think blitzing for us is a good option right now, we usually get picked up effectively leaving our secondary vulnerable.

I see exactly what all you guys are saying about our secondary not being able to cover.. but what's worse.. not blitzing and still getting burned or at least trying to get some pressure and still getting burnt... lol I feel like blitzing at least you got a shot at making the qb make a mistake..

We've blitzed a fair amount actually. We just don't get there.

I will say that for all the times I've seen us burned blitzing I have also seen us hurry up the QB or force the other team into making a poor throw. Sacks aren't everything, but I've felt the d has played pretty well this year all things considered. The secondary has it's problems, but some of that could have been made up if the offense could stay on the field and be more competitive.

Last time I saw a thread like this.. Wilcox blitzed on 3rd down in the next game only to see a screen go for a touchdown. You know what happened after that? VolNation's armchair DCs came rushing to the forum to bash Wilcox for not seeing that coming. "How do you not see that coming?!!", they said. "Wilcox is in over his head", they said.

He blitzes, we get burned. He doesn't blitz, we get picked apart. You know what that's a sign of? Our players aren't good enough. It doesn't matter what we do on defense, our players will be the same player we had last week that weren't good enough to make plays when we need it.

What a stupid thread. What elite db of ours is going to lockdown those additional receivers?

Week after week we don't lay a glove on the opposing QB.

If the secondary players are struggling this much, blitzing isn't really going to get us much. Our lack of pressure is more attributed to the D line not getting any push. I would rather our LBs be back there to cover guys and contain the run than have them blitzing and leaving opposing receivers and running backs uncovered.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Wilcox is going to throw everything he can blitz wise at remaining teams. Our secondary can't handle anyone right now blitz or otherwise so why not blitz.

If you give the QB 5, 6 seconds in the pocket any secondary will break down. In the bana game that QB had a sandwich before throwing on most downs

====================

If you know you're DBs are going to torched eventually, you have to take some chances.

Even a late hit or two on the QB would help.

This defense has the least TOs of any I can remember.

Exactly. Maybe we could start punching the quarterback in the kidneys to affect his throwing ability. This week, chuck Liddell wil visit with the defensive players to work on technique.
