Dont get me wrong, I love the Vols. I have went to games for over 20 years now. I used to have a screen name on here, but I forgot it, and usually just read what everyone else puts on here. With that being said, I just dont see why everyone is soo confident we are going, to just go to Cal and smack them around like a lil b!!ch... Dont get me wrong I think we can win. But all this overconfidence just doesnt sit well with me.. I havent heard this much confidence since before the 02 team... I hope Im in for a big shock but I can really see us starting the season at 1-2.. I CAN ONLY HOPE IM WRONG..

I agree 110%. I liked it better last year when everyone on here was expecting a loss. And so I dont get drilled, I dont mean litterally everyone.

Not at all.

I knew last year we were going to come out and mop the floor with Cal.

Now after a game like that, Cal fans and the media are saying the exact same things they said before our game last year.

So I ask you, which side is truly cocky?

(and don't worry, we WILL win saturday)

I agree 110% also. I don't have any idea right now what to expect..just can't wait for the game. I hope we don't start out 1-2 though, but that is very possible if we don't play great football and have a bunch of stupid mistakes.

Yes, I think people who expect us to blow Cal out are being overconfident and a little irrational.

Win? Sure, we have as good a chance as them. Win convincingly? Ok. Blow them out? That's a stretch. Not saying it isn't possible, but blowing out the same top 25 team twice in a row is a tall order in a sport as unpredictable as football.

And we have a fair chance of losing.

You are ALL definitely WAY too overconfident! I suspect this will have ghastly repercussions for your team come Sept 1. Oh how sweet victory will be!

We're not cocky. I think we are just optimistic about the season. But that could change this weekend.

Sorry teddy, you have no room to talk regardless of the outcome. You have been far from rational.

Droski, on the other hand, is a credit to his fanbase.

Nothing wrong with fans being cocky imho. It's not like we're taking the field with a chip on our shoulder. I'm sure the team is more grounded.

Where's the line between bragging on your team and being cocky? Pretty blurry, if you ask me.

Im sure something we say on a message board affects the way the team will play on the field

I have to agree with you on this one...

It's like last year didn't happen...or at least when it's brought up Cal fans and media types alike all point to it as a reason that Cal will win this year

Here's the thing, if last year is going to be a motivation for Cal then it has to be something that just eats at them all the time. And from what I've read from most Cal fans on here (sans droski) and most people in the media and the quotes from Cal players...it's like nobody learned from what happened last year.

People are expecting the same thing they expected from Cal going into last years game. Unless Cal players grew a pair during the off season there's no cause to think their high powered offense of 2007 will fare any better against the speed and toughness of our D than their 06 version did

not too confident at all

Recent History has shown the SEC is simply better...sounds cliche' but it's true

TN was an average SEC football team last year and they made Cal their woman

We have to be missing something? No one is picking us to win, so what is it that these paid professionals are seeing that we arent?

I wonder if this is really your first post?

Anyway, what effect does fan confidence have on the team? It's the same as "we need to quit looking ahead". WE'RE FANS! That's our job.

Defense sets the tone and i think the good guys like last year will set the tone again and Cal can keep playin that pansy style football they play and we will see who wins, boys defense wins games and i think that the Vols will be just as physical as last year. With that being said Good luck Cal hope that Longshore straps on his chin strap on.

I wouldn't say we're being too cocky, after all that is part of being a Tennessee fan. I also think we are a better team than Cal, and will win the game, and if things go bad for them early it could turn nasty.

However...they are still a good team, and

-The have waited the entire offseason for their shot at revenge, similiar to our wait after the 5-6 debacle

-This is a prime-time game, possibly their biggest OOC game ever

-Travelling to the Left Coast is dangerous for the first game (remember UCLA)

We will take Cal's best shot Saturday. I still don't think it will be enough, and 6 points is a ludicrous line, but there is an element of danger playing Cal Saturday that normally wouldn't be there.

However, I love having our swagger back, so keep it up! Just don't be surprised if it's closer than you thought it would be Saturday.

I wouldn't be shocked if The Realist is yet another incarnation of one of the Cal fans.

it was this same way last year

people were picking ND over LSU, Cal over TN,

and Florida had no chance against Ohio State

it's as if that stuff never happened to some people
