Does anyone know if Steele or Gonzales are supposed to join the vols coaching staff?

Just curious if we might get an announcement or 2 after tonight?

Haven't heard anything about either, except for some wish-list-type stuff about Steele.

I heard the rumor about the Florida receivers coach, but not much else. Hyams was on the Monster one morning saying there was an NFL coach and a coach at a southern school that would be playing for a championship that would be here but said he was sworn to secrecy. (Take it with a grain of salt)

NFL coach sounds like Coach O. "southern school" could be somebody from the SEC or.....it could be Norton or Roth
from USC. It is a "southern" school.

You would have to think that Charlie Strong has to be in consideration for one of the openings in the SEC. His D has lead teams with meyer and Spurrier. He should have enough in a play book to create an offense. Miss State may be his best first HC job.

I would be shocked to see Kevin Steele make a move that is not even lateral since Monte will be DC. Orgeron and Marrone may end up coming.

Hopefully, UT gets Steele and Coach O to go along with Monte---it will be the best defensive staff in college FB. They'll have to pay big money to get all these studs, but money will be no object for UT.

I seriously doubt kevin steele is coming here along with monte and orgeron.

Hard to imagine unless
a) his relationship with Saban is as tenuous as often reported
b) there is some deal in place as co-d coordinator or the poplular "coach in waiting" scenario is being applied.

I just can't see that happening myself. I'd love it, but its not likely.

I'm not that optimistic about it either, but by all reports we are throwing top dollar at staff. If we can pay Steele what Bama is already paying him it is more of a lateral move.

I'm simply not ready to dismiss the possiblity yet.

I think at some point in his career Steele wants to be on the UT sidelines.

Pulling steele away would be a huge loss for saban. I'd sleep better at night if it were true.

UT can pay Steele a lot more than Bama, since Bama's paying Saban $4.5 mil (and he'll get a raise this year with all the bonus money). Monte will get $1 mil and they can pay Steele $800-900K!

I'd be thrilled if Marrone was coming, but he seems to be a rising star in the NFL unless CLK makes him assistan HC offense/o-line coach or something like that. His o-line was the last really good o-line we've had and that's been several years now.

I was hoping Fulmer would hire Marrone as OC last year, but with Adkins a definite retention there'd be overlap at o-line coach and we'd still have needed a QB coach. In hindsight the best option last year would have been the Michigan OC/line coach and QB coach and fire Adkins...but it's all academic now.

EASY NOW.....we don't need to throw money.....just to burn up the cash. I'd love to have Steele but at what position? I certainly can't see paying him a ton just for him to leave UA and coach LB's here.

We might can afford to pay Monte 3 mil, but that doesn't mean we should........Understand?

"UT can pay Steele a lot more than Bama"

I dont think so. Alabama is about to get a lot of money for being in a bcs game. Not to mention the amount of money that program already has, if they were in fact not able to pay steele more because Saban's salary is so high then they would def not be able to add on to their stadium which they are doing.

Also, Steele will have one of the best defensive units in the nation next year so I doubt he would want to leave that behind.

My $.02 for what its worth. I would love to have Steele, but I do not see him leaving the State of Alabama at the moment. His daughter is in school at Auburn, so he is just right down the road from her. I would love to have him, but I think it is just a pipe dream. I hope I am wrong.

Te good news is we should know something about the rest of the staff within the next 2 or 3 weeks.

I do think we could get Steele, rumors are he and Saban don't see eye to eye plus if the money is the same or better at UT it would be a mistake to pass up the oportunity to learn from Monte for a couple years as Co-Def coordinator. That would look great on a resume.

Pipe dreams...All of this is in no way gonna happen...I do think Monte will be here with Coach O but that is the gist of it...No way we get Steele or Marrone much less both

Does anyone have a source for steele and saban not getting along? I have seen a lot of comments about this but with no source..

Honestly it is not in writing of what I have ever seen. I do however have some connections with some Bammers who have said that Steele and Saban do not see eye to eye on a lot of issues. One of them stemming from the title of Defensive Head Coach, instead of not being the Coordinator. That title was given to Kirby Smart.

Steele does however, have the title of Associate Head Coach. Now from what I have heard from before is that Steele has said he has no desire to become a head coach again after the Baylor stint.

I still do not see him leaving Alabama to become a position coach here. Now if it is true that he does not get along too well with Saban, there is the possibility that he leaves. But with his experience, he could very well be in the mix for a coordinator job elsewhere.

Still don't see him in Knoxville..although it is feasible.
