Are the refs supposed to keep the games close?

I watched several games today, and toward the end, if the game wasn't a complete blowout, it always seemed like the refs made so many calls that appeared to only serve the purpose of making the end of the game more exciting at the end.

It always looked like no calls when a foul was obvious, or a questionable call with little contact.

I know it's the big dance, and close games are more exciting, but it just feels like there's some manufactured hype mixed in at different points.

Thoughts?

I don't buy it. Basketball is just a hard game to officiate and a lot of it depends on your point of view.

The officiating was good today even in the UK game even though they played nobody.

I thought officiating was overall a lot better than the SEC refs we've seen. There were a couple of blown calls, the foul on the SDSU player on Maze, and the foul on Goins on the three....the last one seemed "to create hype" to some degree. But that ref was about to pop a vessel every time he got to call a foul.

The refs are much better than the joke SEC refs, but it is an interesting concept to keep games closer to create more excitment.......

Excitement = Ratings = Money

I've been telling my friends for weeks that it will be interesting to see how Kentucky plays without the "Rupperees". It'll be interesting. They're obviously a great team, but they'll have to earn it.

Yes. That's their job. :)
Seriously, I'll take any of the officiating I saw today over what we usually get in the SEC. There were some bad calls both ways. And, some bad non-calls both ways. Elbow to Princes' chin I thought should have been a call one way or the other. Oh, well.

The refs were good today. I also heard a comment that all of there calls will be under review for each game they host in the tourney, each time they have a bad call they will lose a point and the committee or w/e will pick the best squads to ref the next games in the next round. So the officiating should even get better. Hopefully.

Wow. That's great. That would be something to have year round.

For the 800th time . . . There's no such thing as an "SEC ref". There's just a big pool of refs that the NCAA assigns.

Nothing new here. But plenty of substance and evidence. They ABSOLUTELY "coach" officials in major sports. No questions asked. Like it or Not. Don't care what you say about my thoughts.(Not u ta). The sec didn't want KY fans going home so they tilted a bit blue in all their games. And the NCAA wants the tourney (esp the first two rounds) to have as many last second situations as possible. OT and Buzzer Beaters = Money in the bank gentlemen. As I always say " Follow the Money"
