Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Today is Sweet as Soda's heavenly birthday. Her name was Greta Carrick and they actually named the library in Coalmont TN after her. Let's keep her and her family in our thoughts and hearts. GBO

This doesn’t matter in any way, shape, or form, but a huge thank you for mentioning her name…I finally got the opportunity to put a face to the name.

Started to tear up…THE most genuine person ever. Happy Birthday, Greta!

I figured you Braves fans would be doing somersaults about the thought of this happening.
Considering it makes zero sense, I don't see any reason to put any thought into it.

Quick: Name 3 college baseball coaches hired as MLB managers.

It doesn't happen and it doesn't happen for a reason.

Tony Vitello right now today is the BMOC, he has autonomy to do what he needs. The University has shown this time and again.

Tony is tireless, but also very savvy businessman. He knows going to Braves front office situation is a mess.

Right now today he enters the MLB as the 12th highest paid coach, IN COLLEGE. He aint going anywhere. This is posturing.

Ok, I have the gofundme up. I would really appreciate it if people could share it:

And is there a place where I can post this here where it won't get lost?

ETA: Also it's long so if you just want to see my goals and needs scroll down (it's in a bolded section).

No coeds around the MLB ballparks….

For sure. And he’s the other DE in a traditional 4-3 Base.

I put Little at LEO because that’s what we run today. And #1 is a better fit there than #91.

The other 3 DL positions are

SDE - 6’5” 280, Reggie White
DT - 6’7” 300, John Henderson
DT - 6’6” 310, Albert Haynesworth

Doug Atkins was 6’8” 260

Are you putting him at SDE over Reggie? Or are you playing him at DT?
It’s just me but I’m asking Doug where he wants to play, then letting him play their😬👊🏻🍊

CTV name will come up in numerous job openings in College and MLB. Whether it makes SENSE or not as the experts believe...

Maybe it's a dream of his to manage at the MLB level? Braves have postseason level talent. Injuries hurt more than anything this past season, especially pitching. Whoever the Braves hire will be walking into a good situation. I think Acuna and Tony would get along great.

Of course I hope it doesnt happen, but if he wants to manage an MLB team and the Braves are interested, it makes sense

Yeah...I think we win out and it's a no doubter we're in the playoffs regardless of what happens in SEC title game.

we play @ 10th ranked Bama, vs 5th ranked OU and vs 16th ranked Vandy

We get Bama with no Bye week before us, we get OU with no bye week before us (and they'll have just played Texas, at South Carolina and vs Ole Miss).

All we have to do is beat the teams we're playing, rest will take care of itself.
Oh no doubt if we win out. Not even a question. They proved it last year they don’t move teams based on championship games.

The question is can we make it if we lose 1 more game?

10-2 and no SEC championship games.

Will be a lot of teams fighting for 1-2 spots.

There's a world where it makes sense for Tony, I guess.

But the question is: What makes Tony V a good college coach, and how exactly does that translate to wins at the MLB level?

It doesn't. College football head coach is the most important coaching position to hold in sports. MLB skipper is maybe the least. They call it manager for a reason. It's effectively a middle-management position between the FO and the players. Good managers succeed because they navigate the organizational structure well. That's why they are almost always hired in-house. Tony V has zero experience in an MLB organization.

Thinking you are gonna go grab a guy from college and plop him into the MLB is some Ted Lasso type thinking.

So, win all the games = win a Natty? I'm in.

I know it’s been talked about to death but that’s last scoring drive we had in regulation was just amazing I literally couldn’t believe it. Really the whole 4th quarter was impressive with the strip sack for 6 as well.

The team just willed themselves into the endzone. That drive told me that this program is in the elite status. Only elite schools with elite players are able to do stuff like that. The last drive I remember like that was before the McGrath kick vs Gumps in ‘22.
If anyone else had done that drive, they'd be calling it "Ty Simpson's/Matter's/Gunner Stockton's Heisman drive moment"

Well, yea lol I guess. He was a tough, nasty sumbich after all.

I guess you could slot him at SDE and move Reggie inside. But a big part of what made Reggie was the fact he was freakishly athletic 6’5” and close to 300lb, playing out on the edge.

He’d be awesome at DT too, but not the same overwhelming force he was at DE imo.

Jesse Mahelona was a pretty good DT, as well. I'd say he had a better college career than Haynesworth.
Jesse was a very likeable character.
And a beloved former Vol.

Albert was a very unlikable character.
And a recognized former Vol.

But if granted the wish of having one of them, at their peak, to play on this defensive front - I’m taking Albert all day, every day.

Now, there would be a long line of people ready to explain why Jesse’s UT career may have been better (due in no small part to how this post started), but I’m taking the “talent”.
