I miss those days. There were so many life lessons Pat taught thru the game of basketball. She was hard to play for and preached defense. She made her girls go to class and reviewed their grades. She would bench a player for things she did or didn’t do on or off the court.

I recall watching TN overcome LA Tech. Then UConn came calling- great rivalry. It’s sad to see how this program has become a shadow of itself since she left.

I still remember that Hornbuckle layup vs LSU in the semis. Saved our season. I was a freshman in college and had just gotten home from classes and work to see the last few minutes of the LSU game.

That was the second year in a row where we had a thrilling national semis win. The prior year, I was a senior in HS, and the UNC game didn't end until after midnight. Needless to say I was having trouble keeping my eyes open in class the next day lol

At last check, she's a police officer in Nashville.
Wow! I never would have guessed that! Thanks for the info. I've occasionally wondered about her, and many, many other Lady Vols, over the years. Hope she's happy.

Oh! Just tonight I found out that Angie Bjorklund only retired last year (after an injury at 35) from playing pro ball, and is now serving as director of basketball operations at Santa Clara U. She looked and sounded happy in her bio video for their website and, of course, had good things to say about her time in Knoxville and being coached by Pat. 🄹

Whatever happened to Alberta Auguste? She really came on strong at the end and really helped us get that championship. 🄹

That team wasn't perfect, but they came together and refused to lose when it mattered most. Good times!
Wasn’t that, when 10 points behind near the end of game, Candace said the famous ā€œIt’s only 5 stops and we do that all the time in practice.ā€ They did and then Candace hit the free throws to win to advance to the championship? Sometimes they run together. Good times.

and as to Bird, she was a whole different player when it came to tournament games. I often wondered just where that switch was; Pat did too!🤣🤣
