Offensive line played up to their expectations Saturday night, in my opinion. We were able to impose our will against their front 7, which we haven’t been able to do in a long time. Mizzou maybe? Obviously the outcome was not what we wanted but I felt like we had a really solid game plan, which is encouraging based on the last few games. Despite what people think, JG played a solid game until the pick 6. The int is absolutely inexcusable from a 5th year senior. He’s got to know that that ball has to be thrown out of the end zone or at the very least some touch to the back line over an undercutting safety when his primary receiver gets an inside release there. I certainly was encouraged by the sample size we got from Harrison Bailey, I hope he’s the guy moving forward.

OL played much better Saturday although they did struggle mightily with protections and communication when Auburn blitzed. Some of that is on the 5th year senior QB not recognizing it; however, there was too many times when Auburn rushed 5 they got back to QB untouched.

It was awesome watching them run the ball down Auburn’s throat.

Very true. QB has to recognize the blitz and get the ball out quick.

Most of the team performed well again save for the QB. Yes we had that stupid 80 yard bomb, but if you take away pick 6 the D played well enough to win. Get us an average QB and we win games. I don’t understand why Bailey doesn’t play. He’s looked pretty decent so far and has big upside presumably

True enough. Remember we lost the game by 13, so if you take the Pick 6 away and replace it with a touchdown we win the game. They couldn't stop our run game. If we just hand the ball off two more times on that drive, there's a pretty good chance we leave that game a winner.

Offensive line played . . .

Good run game production.

Pass protection was a little weak. I would like to have seen HB at QB for a full half to better judge pass protection over the game plan with two very different QBs. But, overall the OL looked a little better than they have been over the last five games.

To their credit, the OL certainly made some great holes to exploit the ability of EG (he was in full beast-mode). Hopefully, they do a lot more of that against Vandy.

Lord, what have we become when we're talking about the offense/JG playing well in a game where we scored 17 points. Eric Grey and the OL played well from the 25 to the 25. We had 9 drives and only scored on three of them. We got the ball back with 1:18 to go in the half tied at 10 and looked like Clown Car U on offense. Our starting QB had a QBR of 45.5 on the evening. It was not remotely a solid game even removing the pick 6. We ran 74 plays and had maybe 4 or 5 that were big plays. Auburn gives up over 400 yards per game on average and we had 460, but they give up 22 on average and we scored 17.

Pruitt even doubled down on his "did you see how many yards we gained" comments from Saturday night by saying it was our best offensive game of the season. The only point of the offense is to score points. It's always better to have 35 points and 250 yards than 17 and 500 yards.

Yes, but most of the offense DID play well - it's Guarantano that didn't. Our two backs carried the ball 31 times and averaged almost 7 yards a carry. Here are our possessions in summary:

  • Good drive. Drive stalled by a sack of JG on 3rd down. Missed Field Goal.
  • Good drive. Touchdown.
  • Good drive. Drive stalled on 3rd and 3 with a 1-yd. completion. Made Field goal.
  • Drive stalled on 3rd down incomplete pass. Punt.
  • Drive stalled on 3rd down incomplete pass. Punt.
  • Halftime drive - 'Clown Car U'.
  • Good drive. Red Zone drive killed by Pick-6.
  • Good drive. Drive stalled by a sack of JG on 3rd down. Missed Field Goal.
  • Harrison Bailey takes over with 7:14 left in the 4th quarter.
  • Good drive. Touchdown.
  • 1:27 left - not much to speak of.

JG had one good drive that wasn't thwarted by either:
  • throwing a 1-yd route on 3rd down when we only needed 3
  • getting sacked on 3rd down
  • throwing an incomplete pass on 3rd down
  • throwing the pick-6

HB came in and went 7/10 for 86 yards in 7 minutes of 4th quarter mop-up duty. That was over 1/3 of our passing production in 1/8 of the game.

Why is it that our coaches refuse to admit what is painfully obvious to nearly everyone else? It's not abut what JG does right on the football field - it's NEVER been about that. It's about what he does WRONG on the football field. He is capable of making some TERRIBLE decisions at critical times in the football game. That is his issue, and has been since his first game at UT.
