the whole thing with HIPPA has become absurd. Of course if you go to a player and ask if he wants his injury information made public, there is a good chance he or she will say no, on the assumption that there must be something unfavorable about releasing my information or why would they be asking me in the first place? There is a reason to keep certain matters private--addiction issues, psych issues, that sort of thing. But all this privacy silliness about ankle sprains and shoulder problems is silly.
Second, even if Hurd said he didn't want his injury revealed, for whatever reason, Jones could have said: "He has an upper body injury but has asked that we say nothing more" or somesuch. Jones lied and said Hurd had a lower body injury. It was obvious when Jones said it that he didn't want to talk about and was being coy for some strange reason. And then a day later Jones says that Hurd is "fine" and "ready to go"--but again looked uncomfortable when asked about Hurd's status. How exactly does a guy with an injury miraculously become "fine" and ready to go the next day?
Third, if you choose to be secretive and not say anything, know that you are inviting speculation and rumors. That is precisely why it is better to be up front and honest from the get go--but I don't expect Vol homers to get that. And Jones apparently doesn't get it either since he has developed a tendency to blame the media or the internet for being negative or spreading rumors. He ought to learn to relax and be more candid--but he's developed a bad habit of getting bent about little things and is becoming a fairly unpleasant control freak, I'm afraid.
