With our performance tonight + #11 M State losing + #13 Miami (about to) lose….where do we end up in the poll? Any shot we crack top ten?

We’ll probably be around 10-12. Will Arky drop behind us after struggling with an FCS team at home? Not likely, but possible. Should jump Utah, but won’t. So, we’ll be 12th.

I expect a few new teams in the Top 25 this week and some upward movers. Penn State will rise after beating Auburn at home (even as the Tigers aren’t good—it’s a road win against an SEC team). Washington will probably be ranked, as well. FSU? Washington State? Even Kansas?

For those saying we should pass Utah, I imagine with UF coming up we stay behind them for now and pass if we win.

Kansas will probably be in the “also receiving votes section.”

I’m not sure I see FSU ranked this week (they could very well be), but if they win again next week I think there’s a very high possibility FSU would be ranked at 4-0.

I think Arkansas drops as well I think we are either 10 or 11 in ap poll

The polls don’t tend to drop teams for close(r) games against FCS teams (unless said teams take going into OT to beat, but Arkansas won by more than a score in the end).

Doubt it. Poll voters don't like to acknowledge they were wrong unless a team loses. They should drop for sure. UK wasn't impressive against an FCS team.

Best guess is UT will be 12th.

We should jump Utah and the teams that lost ahead of us. Maybe Arkansas too.

Each week of the season top 25 teams have struggled with non-P5 teams. We've dispatched two in scorched Earth fashion and have a true road win over a top 25 team.

I'm not sure how many teams besides us and Kentucky have a top 25 true road win this year and honestly, Florida isn't very likely to finish there. Hopefully they are gone after next week.

I think pollsters will take a wait and see approach with UF coming to town this weekend. I'm thinking they leave us as low as 13 or 14. Not that it really matters atm. Beat the teams on the schedule.

If we’re trying to determine the thoughts and actions of AP voters, guessing that they’ll drop us out of the top 25 would not be a bad guess. Honestly, no guess would be incorrect.

Teams behind us will have to jump us for that to happen. 12th at worst, 11 likely, outside shot at 10 if voters noticed Arkansas trailed almost the entire game vs a FCS team.

I miscounted the losers ahead of us. I guess 12 then... Unless they're coming to Knoxville for GameDay. Then like 9 to make it a juicier matchup for tv ratings.

Personally we should jump Utah and Arkansas, plus the 3 teams in front of us that lost and move up to 10th. We're pretty much a lock to move up to 12th given 3 teams ahead of us lost.

11-12 today.

A win over Florida even though they are down will push us into the top 10 next week.

We might stay in that range all year with good health and a few breaks.

Predicted all three of the upsets (well, highlighted the games as potential upsets) a week ago, heh:

Maybe. But from this point on, it's more about teams in front of us losing while we hold serve and continue to win. More than any bump we'll get from Florida or LSU specifically.

For instance, this coming weekend, there are three potential upsets for teams above us:
-- #11 Michigan State could lose to unranked Washington
-- #12 BYU has to go to #25 Oregon's house
-- #13 Miami goes on the road against a pissed-off #24 A&M

Each of those three upsets, if they happen, would almost automatically bump us up one spot, assuming we handle Akron in the dominating fashion we should.

And I would imagine at least one of the three will happen.

So we are likely to be somewhere between #12 and #14 when we face Florida. Who will themselves benefit in the same way, assuming they beat USF this coming Saturday.

Florida could also benefit from #16 NC State's game against Texas Tech, should the Red Raiders pull an upset. So Florida could be ranked between #14 and #17 when they come to Knoxville.

#12 Tennessee vs #15 Florida would be nice.

All that before we face either FL or LSU. All from "beating Akron." Which just proves the point...it's not about beating Akron, it's about winning (against whoever) while those ahead of us lose.

Go Vols!

We'll end up #12 this week. Maybe #11 if enough pollsters are aware how mightily Arkansas struggled in their cupcake match.

As for how much of a bump we'll get next week when we beat Florida, it won't be much. Almost everyone ahead of us in the poll is playing a cupcake, with two exceptions:

-- #8 Oklahoma State goes on the road to #17 Baylor's house; and
-- #10 Arkansas has to go to College Station to face a still-pissed-off A&M squad.

We'd go up a spot for each upset if those happen (and if we're not already ahead of Arkansas when today's poll comes out).

So at best, we're looking at #11 or #12 today, then #10 or #11 a week from now.

Go Vols!
