tickets go on sale tomorrow for a show at the Ryman in Aug. and I'm considering going but wondered if they still crank out the jam or if it's not worth the time. I don't think I've seen them live since the Atlanta Pot Festival at Piedmont Park in 1992.

edit: I meant to put this in the pub. sorry

The drummer--Steve Gorman--went to my highschool, and I know his mother pretty well. I guess he is still the drummer.

I don't know if they still rock or not. I saw them in about '94 at TPAC, and the concert actually sucked. I think that was during one of Chris Robinson's wilder periods, though.

His brother was also the bar manager at Calhouns on the River when I worked there.

I saw them in 2000. I wasn't really impressed. I'm not a hardcore fan, however. I mainly went because it was a double-bill with Bob Dylan.

Which brother? The Gorman family is very large.

It seems that Steve left the band for a short time and then rejoined them, remaining as a current member.

I went to Ryan with a bunch of Gormans. I wonder if they're all related? I saw them in Miami open up for the Dead and I don't remember much except taking too many gel tabs.

Possibly. I want to say that Steve is the youngest, and I know the parents were divorced, so the others could have very well been in Nashville. Steve grew up in Hoptown and graduated HS sometime in the late 80s.

Of course, I don't know how old you are, and you could have been going to school with his nephews and nieces, I suppose.

I now live in Chicago and they are playing for free here next week. I hear they still jam, but they have lost a bit.

Saw them in 2005 at a Brews and Blues festival. They were excellent (and I'm not a big fan). Of course they did play at the end of a long day at the Brewfest...

I rock out every time I hear "Hard to Handle"!

I think The Black Crowes will be great in the Tennessee Theatre. It's much more picturesque than the coliseum.

Is that in downtown Knoxville? I think I saw Drive by Truckers there last year the night before the Florida game.

there's two. the Bijou Theatre is smaller than the Tennessee Theatre, but they're both on Gay St.

That's it; it was kind of a neat little venue, although that was my first intro to the Truckers. It was a nice event, but I can't say I would rush back to do it again.
