Used to play every Monday night at the Library on the Strip in the early '90's. What ever happened to him?

Thanks for the link Daddy Gee! Checked it out and saw a bunch of YouTube videos- brings back a lot of memories. Good to see he's still around...I spent many Monday nights at the Library (don't remember much of them, though).

Early 90's??!?!?!?! I was there too. :D

He's definitely still around. Plays with Crawdaddy (Michael Crawley) every now and then.

We saw him a few months ago here in Murfreesboro. He has a Facebook page too.

We had a great time seeing Paul a few weeks ago at Smokey Mountain Brewing Co. in Turkey Creek. He spends a lot of time traveling and playing where it's warm (Key West, et al) but also plays a lot around Knoxville and East TN, and he also does private parties. He is a great performer and always a good time.

Nice to reminisce about good times at the Library during college. Good times, good times. He was also very influential in my acoustic style.

He plays @ Tin Roof on Mondays on the strip. Quaker Steak on Sundays off Merchants. Not sure about the rest of the week... I liked going to Kingston Alley to see him in the Summer, but he hasn't played there in some time (now Rays ESG)

Paul is a great guy. The few times I've met him over the last 2 decades he's always been friendly and nice to everyone. He's great at being a house musician and working a bar for the night.

Hearing the name 'Tall Paul' also makes me think about other old K-town rock dudes still rocking it in some fashion. Folks like Todd Steed.

Todd Steed and the Suns of Phere, right? Wasn't there a band called "something" dave and the dope smokin primos? I tried researching local music when I first started school in Knoxville, but didn't find much. Dave Landeo is by far my favorite bar entertainer in Knoxville.

Todd Steed plays with Sons of Phere (sp?) now. That's correct.

He also fronted for Smoking Dave and the Primo Dopes with Dave Nichols. If I'm not mistaken, Dave is still around. SDatPD were a great college band. I think their "last show" in the Old City (bar where Melting Pot is now) was in 94, maybe? Great show. One of the 2 or 3 Smoking Dave shows I saw. I was only 18 in '94.

The old Knoxville music scene. Sandbox, Hypertribe, Wicked Cow People, Viceroys, Gran Torino, Immortal Chorus, Texas Toads, Judybats, etc. All that mixed with the monthly Mel and the Party Hat shows passing through town.... That's all from my second half of highschool and first year or two of college.

Smokin Dave is who I was thinking of. I found a website that had mp3s of their songs, but have lost it. I'm quite a bit younger, so most of those bands don't ring a bell... I'm assuming Mel was a regular on the college circuit, like the Velcroe Pygmies (who I understand have been at it for quite some time).

I saw smokin dave at manhattan's around 93-94... I remember hearing that they weren't playing as much.... I think that's the only time I saw them...

mel and the party hats was a great cover band from nashville maybe? they would usually show up on campus at least once a month.....

jason and the scorchers, sage, the unitz, sea 7 states.... superdrag... lots of good bands at the library and around town...

the white animals were pretty popular... I guess a little before my time..

He played at O'Charley's as well during 2000-04. Played "When I paint my masterpiece" and "Cumberland blues" for me on my 21st. Really cool guy.

Used to play every Monday night at the Library on the Strip in the early '90's. What ever happened to him?

My freshman year 91 he used to pack the Library.
By 95 he was just some old dude playing Jimmy Buffett covers and no one cared to hear him.

I worked at O'Charley's from 2003-2005, until it closed. Our busiest night was by far Mondays when he was there. $2 Coronas and Tall Paul, we'd go through 200 cases...it was nuts.

After O'Charley's closed, he took his act to Charlie Peppers. I think he's currently playing at the Tin Roof on Mondays, which is the building O'Charley's used to be in.
