He was snickering that the Spurrier story was broken by a Tennessee paper.

It is pretty ironic. I'd love to know how Tony Barnhart, Ivan Maisel, ESPN etc. were in the dark, but somehow The Tennessean got the story.

ESPN knows of nothing south of the Mason-Dixon line. Tony Kornheiser said this was" Philip Fulmer's worst day." The reason the Nashville Tennesseean broke the story is because ESPN cannot find the southland. Since Steve Superior left"The Conference" we have taken on Mark Richt, Nick Saban and Tennessee has only backed up slightly. Good luck Steve Superior on a stronger conference that began to figure out your gig as you left for the league. Enjoy your golf at Augusta National and we will see you back in Neyland next fall.

Don, I think you will agree with me on this. If you're going to hold out for a perk, it might as well be a membership at Augusta National.

Like someone said the other day.... head coaching jobs come and go but a membership to Augusta is forever.

I played at The National last week and it's alright considering it's in Georgia but, that will not cure Dondrial Pinkins or 100 years of losing football. Hey Steve, enjoy being a Cock', sounds like a perfect fit!

Hey MemphisVol, My comment was in reference to the INCREDIBLE bias ESPN has in their unfair coverage, or lack therof, of sports south of the Mason-Dixon line. They can cover the Red Sux ,uh, Red Sox, Michigan-Ohio St., NHL or whatever happens up there. They do not know what goes on down here and really that is quite alright. Look Away, Look Away, Look Away...Dixieland!

You know that there ARE sports outside of SEC football. ESPN has to cover everything, and given what's bigger and what's not, and their demographics, SC does a pretty good job of covering sports.

Milohimself, if your from the the South there are NO other sports, or matter of fact anything else, outside of the Southland... end of story! (i see your SC logo, are you from the left coast er, west coast? )

I think the whole southern football superiority thing was true into the 1980s, but for the most part there are so many athletes now, that it's tough to say one conference is better than another.

in the 90's Alabama, Florida, Tennessee LSU last year won the "ring." Florida lost a title game, Tennessee lost a chance for a split title in 97'. Did another conference acolplish this?

I figured you'd take a hint from the avatar that I'm not from the south... I'm from Oregon, actually. Went to HS with Ainge, actually. He's an acquaintance of mine.

What GAVol said was right. There are strong conferences all over the country. Eastern strength in the ACC, southern strength in the SEC, midwestern in Big Ten and Big 12, and western in the Pac-10.

There you go with that Pac 10 propaganda again. ;)

Give Ainge three more yeas of education and he will agree. If it don't happen in the south, it just doesn't count!!! Stars and Bars forever!

And Erik is VERY west coast... Trust me on this. If you've ever seen him in casual clothes, you'd know what I'm talking about.

He will see the light. Oh yeah, wasn't Oregon one of the blue states? He's a smart kid and he will get on board very, very soon!
