Anybody Else Frustrated With Offensive Tendencies on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down??

This is not meant to Bash Tysen Helton or any of the Volunteer players, but what is going on with our playcalling. 1st down-run, 2nd down-Run, 3rd down- pass. I can’t tell you how many times I saw this exact scenario play out last night versus the gators. I’m watching the game via the Jeremy Pruitt show breakdown this morning and I’ve already counted 4 consecutive offensive possessions I’m the first half where this was the way the playcalling went down for down. If fans see this then I can guarantee you Florida’s coaches are picking up on it. We cannot have these types of tendencies in the SEC, especially with a sub par offensive line. Our predictability was nauseating is what I’m trying to say, I’m just curious if anyone else feels this way? On a side note- what happened to #7’s hands, he’s not been as sure handed as he was last year!

It's been a little too predictable, for sure. The staff wants to establish that we are a physical team that runs the ball. We don't quite have the personel yet and I'm sure the thought was to try to give our offense a chance without risking turnovers but unfortunately we still put the ball on the ground and sprinkled in a pick or two for good measure.

I saw a few wrinkles and adjustments out there yesterday offensively. That counter play in the first half that went for 25-30 yards comes to mind. We are going to need a deeper playbook for sure, but the coaches are worried about these players executing the limited playbook that we are already working with. It's hard to expand on a playbook that already has poor execution.

The line can block. Better to have a running back try to inflect some pain on defense than try to set up a pass play and have the QB get killed before the end of the first qtr. We only have 2-3 Qbs.

I thought the plays were fine. Look at the yards. If you discount the sympathetic coaching mistake of the goal line defense break down at the end of the game, Tennessee has 10 minutes more time of possession and more yards.

Playcalling is probably a reflection of the coaches knowing how severely limited UT is from a roster and execution standpoint. That sadness is visible with safe, though at times questionable, plays. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

It wasnt horrible as proven by the amount of yards gained. Somewhat predictable as noted by many others but fairly effective at moving the ball down the field.

Now if we can get a couple ball protection drills worked into our practice time we can compete with three teams left on the schedule.

Yeah that’s a good point. We can’t execute much of anything right now. Their was a few bright spots though. Calloway has some great potential I believe. Glad to see JJ get involved more yesterday. I wish they would throw a little more passes on first downs in there to break things up. I just don’t like the predictability we’re showing with the run first mentality, we gotta do a better job of disguising those things and we really need to stop running the same play back to back times. I’ve seen that multiple times and it frustrates the crap out of me.

Yeah we did move the ball at times, but eventually one of those shots on JG is gonna be a season ending one. I’m not sure if we have the horses to protect him over this SEC run we’re about to go on. The east is better as a whole his year too, it’s gonna be a tough game week in and week out.

Counting with the Vols. First Down Run. Second Down Run. Third Down Fumble. I love our players at the skill positions but our line needs a lot of work. We need to be more physical at the point of attack and if we play Strong I or just I-Form our runners need to learn to follow the lead blocker. When we do zone read our QB sometimes needs to keep it. They're jumping at the line before the ball has even changed hands if we pull it we get a couple of big runs and they will be more weary to jump the play. We need to run quick passing and make our QB more of a game manager. Quick passing would help us immensely. We just need to switch it up and we will do well. GBO

The play calling was real bad yesterday. 1st down run, second down run, 3rd down pass........over and over throughout the first half...........if I can tell my wife what play they are about to call (off tackle to the left), then you know the Florida D knows.

The onside kick was terrible........the D had already been put in bad situations every time, then that. But I was most concerned by the offensive play calling. When you get a team full of Alabama players.......sure go run, run, pass; however Tennessee does not have that, therefore they must be more creative and at the least mix it up.

I did like seeing Coach P kicking the white board........at least he had some fire.

Way too predictable. I understand trying to establish run, but clearly getting guys on the outside had more success than running up the middle behind a fullback that couldn’t bust a grape in a fruit fight. I liked the aggressive 4th down and onside kick calls, just weren’t executed. FLA player shouldn’t come down with that ball without a shot to the ribs. Just frustrating to watch, but somehow I’m lured back in every Saturday. Oh well, GBO

Yeah I didn’t like the onside kick either. I just thought it was too early to call that. But I give CJP credit for having big stones, he ain’t scared to make a call and stick with it regardless if outcome. What’s sad is the kick would work had the kids done what they were supposed to, the one kid got greedy and went for the ball when all he had to do was block the Florida player that ended up catching it. These guys make so many mental mistakes it’s ridiculous. What’s sadder is it just one guy on a play here or there though that’s causing these catastrophic issues. That first interception should of never happened if Tim Jordan does his job. I watched that play about 30 times this morning and Jordan lets the guy run right past him on the edge and then his ass wants to try and help andrrson block his guy instead, it was mind boggling how Jordan Effed up that protection. If I was jg I woulda let him have an ear full after that.

Just about any high school head coach in America could have called our plays last night and had the same or better results. For the money UT is paying this guy, I would expect more.

We could have had Bill Walsh calling plays last night, I'd love to see the playbook that could have saved the game. (Non existent)
