With both Tuttle and McKenzie's health in question, we're going to need Johnson to step up big this season. Has anyone reported on how he's looked this spring?

I just read within the last couple days an article that mentioned him, and if I read it right, mentioned him needing to be "in football shape". Why wouldn't he be if he's been here over a year now?

...Shoop said he is doing good things...here is a recent article from of all places a pot blog :)

Yeah I saw that. I hope I'm wrong but that sounds like a generic, "stock" answer about someone who's not standing out at all.

I've actually seen more positive things being said about Picou than Johnson at this point... and as another poster just stated-- why the heck is he not in "football shape''? The kid has been here way too long to still be out of shape... that screams questions of dedication/commitment/buying in.... Hopefully it is just a few lbs to trim off and he will be a much needed surprise...

McKenzie's dad is GM of the Raiders, yet he came in out of shape. Do you think Khalil had access to training?
When Johnson was suspended he could NOT train with the team.

Needing to lose a little weight isn't an indictment of his skills or ability.

Well, KMac was injured and missed a lot of time prior to coming here, so that contributed to him being out of shape. He couldn't do everything (physically) he needed to be in football shape.

That's why I figured Shy Tuttle would have a bigger freshman year than KMAC, which he was until that dirty shot from Georgia.

He is doing fine. Changing his body slowly learning what he needs to do to play at this level. He had a really good scrimmage last week early as well as Picou. Both we add valuable depth. Kmac and Vickers will be fine as they will hit the ground running training this off season. Tuttle we will just have to wait and see. Butler will get snaps this year as a TFreshman.

It's a slight indictment of his commitment and focus if after being on campus for 15 months, nearly 9 months in the strength and conditioning program, with all kinds of opportunity staring him in the face given our current situation at DT, that he's still overweight/out of shape.

Didn't Mckenzie have a knee injury his senior season before coming? I think that's why he was out of shape.

Regardless, he can't be out of shape for 1 whole year. Hell we get excited because a kid is an EE, but enrolling early only gets you an extra 5-6 months or so.

He didn't have a full time S&C coach until just a few weeks ago. Some kids have self discipline to get things done some need somebody forcing & tracking them.

I'm hungry. Thinking Arby's.

I need a "GYRO"
I'm holding out for a "GYRO" 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight

McKenzie didn't even play his senior season because of some kind of school transfer issue.

Sjursen was here last summer and fall. He may not have been a very good or well paid SC coach, but he was there full time running the s&c program. Certainly, most of/a vast majority of our players were fit (if not strong enough) under his watch. Either way, it's very problematic and not a good look for Alexis that he's still out of shape at this point. Red flag to say the least imo.
