TB on his blog states that Bud Ford was fired by Dave Hart and Tennessee recently. I know it is Basillio. However, it is a strong accusation if not true. What are your thoughts? Supposely, he was working on a project on the history of Tennessee football for the last 15 years. He wanted to work for three more years and had an agreement with Hammy. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was true. Also, if true, what are your thoughts?

I hope it's not true. Seems like a douchey move if true.

Bud's a dufus. Contriuted noting to the program. Considering Hammy left us in a bad financial situation we need to cut dead weight like Ford. What was he making?

I don't know him well enough to know what kind of person he may or may not be. However, 45 years is a long time to work somewhere and then be fired or let go without as much as a thank you. Jo Pa notwithstanding. He had to go.

Bud Ford announced his retirement as being effective on 12/30/2011. The announcement was made back in May.

You should just stop at "Tony Basillio". You know it's crap because he wrote it.

That's true, SDV. Just seemed some thought he was being forced out of his long term job just before Christmas. There was to be a transition job beginning on 10/01/2011. Hart determined that an historian was not going to be needed at UT.

That link was from May. He is being forced out. He was to receive $25k per year for a part time historian gig

Bud Ford's 45-year career won't end with historian role » GoVolsXtra

Same site, a few days ago.

Part of the point I was trying to make was that this guy was going to retire at the end of the year. Hart's making a cost-cutting move. I don't disagree that he could be making a "fat-cutting" move as well, because that very well may be going on here. But I venture to guess that you could fill up Neyland with the applicants for a $25,000 a year job as Tennessee historian.

The other thing I was trying to say was that a mud-raker was trying, once again, to make things sound worse than they really are. The guy needs to get a job at the Weekly World News and shut up about Tennessee.

I hate TB with a burning passion, but his account of the Ford dismissal was 100% accurate.

My initial thought was...

If DH will actually cut a guy like Ford loose (after 45 years), then there should be no doubt about where he will stand with an under-performing coach...

Most of the people who post like "good riddance" or "Bud Ford sucks" have no clue what his job consisted of other than his role when Lane Kiffin left in that presser.

The sense of entitlement by people connected with the UTAD and the UT media in Knoxville is astounding.

i had contact with bud ford thru a few emails yesterday regarding my 1938 original letter that robert neyland sent out to faculty regarding season tickets. i was suprised he responded at all. he seemed nice and informative. though i thought him to be arrogant and perhaps other things from seeing him in videos and how he reacted to certain things.

Here is the deal. Bud Ford decided he would retire at the end of the year. He announced that decision in May 2011. He wanted to take a part time job beginning in Jan. 2012. He would be paid 25 k a year for 3 years as the Vol Historian. Dave Hart met with Bud and told him that the Vol Historian position has been eliminated. Therefore he will retire at the end of this year. Bud Ford's job has already been filled. Do not think that Dave Hart is the bad guy here!
